You are given $10k - What do you do?
What would you invest in if you were given $10,000.00 tax free???
Would your decision change if it were $20,000.00???
Would you invest it all or split it up???

micro-lending.
those peer-to-peer lending sites have excellent returns and I'd do a bunch of little loans... and feel good about doing it too.

I'd invest it in a new roof on our house!  if I had 20K and I had no debt, I'd extend the dormer on our house.....damn this house sucks up all our money!

I'd put in the highest yeld CD I could find, assuming you want to save it and gain interst and not spend it.

I would spend some on home improvements and spend some on a vacation or big gift for ourselves (big screen TV, etc)
$10,000 in my pocket would be GONE within about 6 months one way or another

hmm... we're actually in this situation. my grandmom passed away in February, and we'll be getting about 10 K as an inheritance.
now, i have student loans, AND a car loan, but i have strict instructions from my dad  LOL that this money is to be used for house improvements OR saved for when we go to adopt our baby ( i already know that i can't have my own kids).
he just wants us to use it for something that will last longer than a car i guess- which i can't blame him!
so... we'll probably use it to start redoing our kitchen sooner than we were going to.  we each have a decent amount in savings, so we'll keep that for the adoption and use this money for the kitchen.

I would have to agree here. This is assuming we didn't have any debt though, and being a homeowner I have plenty of that

I would definately save the majority of the $$. We want to bank whatever we can at this point. With the economy so unstable, it is a scary world & you never know what could happen. But I would take some of it & do a nice vacation for DH & I in Italy...

I was going to say pay off debt, but if I had no debt, most likely something for the house. Home improvements, furniture, electronics, etc.
And maybe put a little into savings.

After buying a fence...I would save a portion in a money market to build my emergency fund up a little more, the rest I would split between DD's 529 account and retirement investments.
