xpost: Has anyone travelled using their passport with madien name on it?
I just realized that my passport is still in my madien name. Will that be a problem if I also bring my marriage license & driver's licence? Has anyone done this?

As long as your airline tickets match the name on your passport, you're fine. I never changed my name on my passport so I just book everyhting in my maiden name. I've never had a problem.

I traveled to Canada where my airline tickets were in my married name and my passport was maiden and they never questioned it.

I would definitely bring your marriage license with you just in case. Usually they won't let you through security if your airline ticket and passport don't match.

where are you going? It's not only the airplane ticket you have to worry about. It's more Customs.
Want to add that I was recently in the same situation and was just going to bring my old drivers license and marriage cert. until I asked a few people I know at Customs and they basically told me to get a new passport if I dont want to be stuck in the other country. All you need is to get the one guy that wont bend... Bc technically if your paperwork (passport) is not up to date they DO NOT have to let you back in. Oh and then they told me to NOT show my old license bc I really shouldn't be carrying two licenses - with two different names. lol.
p.s. I work for the federal govt. would have also had that ID on me... the agents still told me to updat my passport before I left.

Maybe call the airline to explain? They might be able to change it in time.

well i book everything in my madien name since that is what is on my passport. Someone once told me that i could book in my married name and just bring your marriage license with you and you should be ok.
I would really call the airline and let them know and see if they have better advice

Re: xpost: Has anyone travelled using their passport with madien name on it?
I was also told I could have some issues since I was traveling with my dd and both parents have to be present to take her in and out of the country. We were only using her birth certificate and it had my married name as the mother. So they told me I could have trouble with that and using madien name passport. I dont know if you are traveling with kids, but wanted to give you the heads up on that.
Bottom line - not worth the risk. As I said before - Customs DO NOT have to let you in/out if your passport is not current. Showing them a marriage certificate could mean nothing to them. And agian - I'm getting this straight from Custom agents. Good Luck!

Go change your passport. The laws and rules are getting stricter by the day. Your airline ticket and passport must match exactly.
I am in the middle of names changes now and it is a hassle, but I would NOT risk tring to leave or enter the country if it didn't match exactly. I wouldn't even attempt it domestically.

Re: xpost: Has anyone travelled using their passport with madien name on it?
I book flights using my maiden name bc that is what is on my passport that i got 3 yrs ago... It doesnt expire for quite some time so why should i have to pay for a whole new passport for a simple name change... They should really let you make a name change and charge a small amt... I know they only do it for free up to 1 yr and then after that its a whole new pp...

when I went to aruba I called the airline and they told me my airline ticket HAS to be in my maiden name. A marriage license will not work. I got my passport changed to my married name. I didnt want to take the chance. that was over 2 years ago

I forgot to change my passport and I went to Antigua and Peru. All I did was bring my original marriage license not a copy with my passport. I did not have a problem entering or leaving each country.

thanks everyone. Tomorrow, I'm going to make an appt with the passport office & get it done in 1 day.
Just so you know it will take more then a day for your passport to be processed. Expedited service is running at about 3 weeks from send off of the passport to return.
We just had to renew ours and this is how long it took with expedited service.
You'll find more info HERE

But I thought I could make an appt & go in person to have it done the same day because I am traveling within 14 days? DH & I did that a few years ago when we got married.

Re: xpost: Has anyone travelled using their passport with madien name on it?
FYI - to change your name in your passport, you do NOT have get a new passport! All they do is endorse the old passport with a stamp in the back with your new name (it is free to do it). When they scan the passport in through the system, it comes up with the new name though. For those of you who traveled with your passport and tickets not matching, good for you for not getting "caught" but technically it is a federal offense and the US customs do not have to let you in! For the OP, try to change the tickets if they will (they generally won't) or make the appointment to get the stamp in your passport done at the passport office. Not sure if they still need to send it out or not but it is worth it to try!

When did you have this done bc passport website is not showing that info
3. In the past, my passport was amended with new or corrected information. Is that still possible?
No. Since September 26, 2005, Passport Services no longer amends currently valid passports. Instead, customers are issued replacement passports. Please see the chart above to determine which procedure is appropriate for your situation.

I had to bring my marriage license. And I was asked for my birth certificate.
Luckily I had both.
