What do you to do to stop your toddler from constantly touching the tree and ornaments? My dd is 17 months and very curious about everything. She touches everything. Do i gate it off? Any ideas or advice?

i only put ornaments on the top part of the tree where DS can't reach. We have a fake tree, so I let him touch it if he likes, but he's stayed away so far. He's more interested in touching all the decorations outside at this point!

This is our 2nd xmas with DS beign mobile. Last year we kinda gated it off. This year I am just going to teach him to stay away. We need to teach him at some point so why not now.

We haven't put ours up yet but I'm planning to just try to keep him away from it. He's almost 20 months and every time he sees a decorated tree, he points to the ornaments and says "ball!" So that makes me a bit nervous but we'll see how it goes lol. Luckily we don't have any glass ornaments and our tree is fake.

I put non-glass ornaments at the bottom of the tree and glass ornaments on the top, so that if he pulls on one of the ones on the bottom and it drops, it won't break. Surprisingly though, DS doesn't bother with the tree, but a Santa statue I have next to the tree that he's always playing with.

I plan on making some ornaments "her" ornaments. Also non-breakable at bottom.

I'm not a BTDT mom though so I'm no help.

I was in this boat last year. We bought this -

but instead of enclosing it, we just wrapped it around our TV stand and where the tree was located.

As it was up all of December, when we took it down for the actual holiday, she never dared to go play with the tree or the TV since she knew they were hands-off.

DD is 19 months and we are not doing anything different. We put ours up on Sunday and she has definitely been curious and has touched things a few times. We just keep telling her that we don't touch, we just look. She is starting to get it. I am a big believer in not changing our household routine too much because then when they go to someone else's house you end up running after them non stop because they don't know they shouldn't touch those things. I think just taking a few days to teach them is a great option.

We have a gate. My cat is pissed off because she likes to lay under the tree and said gate is preventing that.

I keep the non breakable ornaments at the bottom. For the most part, my dd isn't really interested much by the tree. She's very good about not touching it. But we also try to keep her away from it when possible.

Dd is 13 months and we put our tree up a few days ago. So far she's grabbed at ornaments a few times but we only put shatter proof ones on the tree this year. We just keep telling her no and redirecting her to one of her toys and so far it seems she's losing interest in the tree.

My DS is 8 months old and pulling to stand on everything. I am going to have to put the superyard gate in front of it otherwise I am sure he will pull the whole tree down.

DS is 20 months and into everything. Last year I gated it off. This year I'm going to try and not gate it. I'm planning on putting minimum ornaments near the bottom of tree. Especially no breakable ones. I never had to gate off anything with my older DS. I was able to put out all my Christmas decorations. He would look at stuff but hardly touch anything. This one is a little bruiser and must touch everything and he breaks things.

Mine are 13 mo. We only put them up where they can't reach. Tree looks like poo but what can you do. Brielle was on the couch with me and grabbed one so hard from the side and the tree moved. I only put unbreakable on too in case they do move the tree and shake it. they pet the branches sometimes, but don't bother it too much since they cant get the ornaments.

def gate it off if you are concerned. I try not to put my favorite ornaments down low bc I want him to be able to look at and touch the tree but not ruin my ornaments

We put ours up on Monday and DD goes over to it and tries to touch stuff. I just keep telling her "no, don't touch, or do nice", etc...It's been working so far.

We put the non breakable ones low ......no gate or anything. Just 5 million 'don't touch(s)'
