Re: WWYD re:family wedding
I would send DH (he did commit to the BP so he really should go to the RD) and find something to do in that cute town with DS. I love Saratoga. As an aside, I think it's awesome that your parents are driving up ther to babysit for you. Lucky!

Brides have no clue... Don't forget, they are at the peak of being self centered!
Just say no one can watch the kid. Don't go. End of story.

Re: WWYD re:family wedding
i am one of those people who don't think children belong at adult events. i never take DS to any of the family birthdays at restaurants, wouldn't even occur to me to take him to a rehearsal dinner. that's just my personal feelings though. my bff takes her son everywhere. i feel so bad for the kid. he ends up falling asleep in a stroller while his parents party. doesn't seem right to me.
as for your mil showing off your son- that's what photo books are for!

Re: WWYD re:family wedding
Personally, I think it was ballsy of your MIL to ask your parents (whether they minded or not) to watch your uninvited child at an out of town wedding just to show him off. Then on top of it say they he couldnt come to the RH dinner either. I understand why your DH is put off. I would skip the RD.

ITA. I would never even think to bring my DS to someones rehearsal dinner. It's really an adult event. If it were me, I'd leave DS home with my parents for the weekend and go enjoy the wedding ourselves.
I'm getting married in Lake George this fall and there are no children invited. Every single guest is from OOT. I understand that means that everyone with children will either have to leave their kids home or get a babysitter at the hotel. We also aren't having children at the rehearsal dinner. I don't think any explaination is necessary - it's not an event for children.

I agree. If they were welcome, and it was stated as such, then great.
Leave the kids at home and have a great time.

Re: WWYD re:family wedding
While the bride of course has the right to say no kids, I think it's rude of her to not make an exception for you since you're coming from OOT. I also think if anyone should have to sit in a hotel room and try to entertain a toddler for the evening (not fun IMO!) it should be MIL since she wants him there so badly.
Additionally, when exactly is she going to 'show him off' since he won't be at the wedding or rehearsal dinner?

Re: WWYD re:family wedding
I've thrown a few adults only events and because of that some people wouldn't come, and thats fine, I understand. When I am invited to one, if we cant get a babysitter, we either dont go, or one of us always tries to go. Its not a big deal to me.

I agree. Our kids are always invited to everything and we always leave them home. They have early bedtimes. They usually eat dinner at 5:30, get a bath at 7 and are asleep by 7:30-8.
When DS was a baby, we did take him to a wedding where the ceremony was at the hotel and we stayed at the hotel. DH stood in the lobby of the hotel with DS and went up to our room when it was reception time.
We now have a 2yo and 4yo. They are in 2 weddings this year of our very good friends. If they were not in the wedding, they would stay home. After the ceremony, one of us will be retiring to our rooms with the kids. (DH is in one wedding and I am the MOH in the other wedding.)

Re: WWYD re:family wedding
I just wouldn't go. OR, I would have DH contact his cousin (ya know, the guy who's wedding it is, not the mother) and explain the situation.
