WWYD - friend and FF car seat
So a good friend of mine has a 13mo and she just posted photos of him in his new big boy car seat - Front Facing. He is very small...so size is not the issue. She is actually a pretty cautious mom and so I think she just doesn't know about the new recommendations to RF until at least 2. Would you mention something or just let it go? I don't want her to think I am judging her parenting, but I also want her to know she should probably have him RF. I am usually a MYOB type....but ive read some very compelling articles on the subject and I feel like she should know. WWYD??

is she is a good friend then when i talked to her i would just say everyone does what they feel is right but have you heard that the new recommendation for FF is two and older now? if she said yes just leave it at that if she says no then she knows and can make the decision herself.

i also have friends that moved their kids to FF prior to the new age guidelines...and they are fully aware of the guidelines. i personally wouldnt say anything

Me too. I've mentioned it in passing if a friend who is expecting or has a young child asks me when I turned my DS FF. And I explain to them, I haven't yet because the recommendation now is 2 y/o. And then they do what they want anyway. It's her decision ultimately. I get where you're coming from because it would bother me too. But I wouldn't say anything.

I switched my DS at 13 months- I am a good parent and this was my choice, I would get upset if my friends would judge me and my parenting.
Switching at 2 is a recommendation, not the law yet and in my opinion I didn't do anything wrong.

If she's your friend say something but also include some reading info. In the end it's up to her and her DH what they feel is best for their LO.
I've had close friends and family see photos on fb but called or pm me to voice concerns. It didn't bother me at all.

Maybe find an article or video on youtube and post that on your FB. That way it is just generally out there and not directed at her. Say something like "wow, I had no idea! Just wanted to share for all the other parents out there". Maybe she will see it and take a look. Then she can decide for herself but at least you tried.

This. I have friends who FF after one year. They know the recommendation. And they give me a hard time because DD is 2 and still RFing. I would prob post an article about it on my FB though.

I'm sorry if I made you feel I was saying you are a bad parent. That was absolutely not my intention. I agree that everyone has to make the choices that are right or them and their children given all the information. Thing is - I am pretty confident thar my friend has no idea about the new recommendation. If she did - I would say she would have 100% kept him RF...that is just how she is.

I wouldn't say anything and I haven't said anything. I turned DD FF at 15 months in our car, at 19 months in the baby sitters car and 25 months in my mother in laws car, but my best friends son just turned 1 and she turned him ff and i didn't say anything. most people have the 1 year mark in their heads and the 2 year thing is now just a newer guideline and I wouldn't tell her what to do just the same I wouldn't want her to tell me what to do. If someone starts a conversation with you about it then give your opinion but i think giving parenting advice especially for topics like this which can be sensitive can be a bit touchy.

This debate recently came up, and I saw a video/PSA and FB group that convinced me to keep them rear-facing as long as possible. I think that I am a good mom, too. I just didn't know HOW dangerous it was, and I think your friend may not be as aware either. Here is the info I found:

Honestly if I had a friend or anyone for that matter send me articles or the video above and say "hey its 2 yrs" I would probably tell them to MYOB and our friendship would not be the same.
in the end its their child and their decision and none of anyones business.

i dont think sending a video or article is needed but if a good friend of mine got mad at me cause i mentioned to them that just in case you didnt know the new recommedation is 2 not 1 and i made it perfectly clear that i wasnt judging them then i would think they were never really a good friend of mine
i have a friend who turns thier kids before two she has asked me why i havent done my 2.5 year old yet and i said the new recommedation is 2 or older she has her way of doing things and my way of doing things i dont judge her at all. She parents a lot different than me and we discuss and joke around about it . thats what you do with friends.

I agree. I switched both of my kids at this age (DC#1 was before the 2yr rec; with DC#2 the 2yr rec had just come out) because both of my kids would projectile vomit from car sickness every single time they were in the car and the ped and I thought that might help. Honestly if one of my friends had commented, I would have thought they were obnoxious as I'm an educated parent and was fully aware that I wasn't following the strictest of safety precautions but I had my reasons.

Hope you didn't think I meant to actually send them to her. I just edited my post to clarify. i just meant post them on FB like you are putting it out there to educate anyone who would be interested. That way it's not directed at her and she can take it or leave it. Everyone can decide for themselves but like she said, she may not know. I was tempted to turn DD because she is 95th percentile for height but after seeing the research I am definitely waiting. Had I not know, I would have definitely turned her.

I agree 100%. I think sending articles/ videos is obnoxious.
If you really feel the need to say something, and it's a good enough friend, just say it. Don't be passive aggressive about, just say it as it is.
