WOW...
You know, I never wanted to believe there really was favoritism on this site, but now I see the light.
A post of mine was IMMEDIATELY altered after I used a certain word in context... Followed by an FM warning...(I even put an * over one of the vowels b/c I wasn't sure if the word was blocked or not.)
Turns out it ISN'T blocked because the word has been used NUMEROUSLY this whole week, there is even a current post with it in the subject, and has yet to be altered...
yet, *I* got a slap on the wrist..
Things that make you go [i REFUSE to use that emotiecon]
i understand the site admins can do whatever they want, but it's a little disheartening to see blatant it is..

that really stinks. especially if the word is being used elsewhere on the site, and in the same context. very weird.

wasn't that word, but since you mentioned it...THAT word was used yesterday by someone else and I highly doubt they got in trouble for it.

Not so long ago someone was banned for saying some argumentative things....since then I have seen much worse things being said, yet those members are not being banned, the posts are not even being removed...I make it a point to report them just because I feel everyone here should be treated the same, but sadly I dont see that everyone is

For the 80 billionth time we do not sit here and read the message board all day long. We only move/react to posts that are reported. So yes your post where you used the c word was reported and you received a warning from the LIF Admin for using offensive language. Yes your post using the word wh*re was reported and edited.
The word wh**re will now be starred out and if you see inappropriate words posted feel free to report them and we will act accordingly.
But I can assure you we are not sitting here and reading your posts and waiting for the next bad word to be posted.

Re: WOW...
There is web software which can change words automatically so I'm not sure that you were being watched and pounced upon by them. Or someone could have reported you.
While I'm not going to comment on favoritism, I think consistency is the key. If you use one word and it's moderated, so should all the posts that have that word in it.
But they probably have one or two mods for hundreds, thousands of posts per day. My thread looking for restaurant reccos got moved to Food and this morning but I'm not complaining because technically, it was me with the blame.
Anyway, they can always fall back on the rules that everyone accepted when they joined in the end. Just presenting a different opinion is all.

I don't think the issue was the USE of the word. The issue is that this particular post has sat all afternoon (capitalized I think) so it's kind of hard to miss- yet she was edited and corrected for the same indescretion (almost immediately after she had posted it).
When you corrected her post I just assumed it was a knee-jerk reaction, like "Ugh- that word needs to go." But THIS time, the word has sat all afternoon, with nary a question- so there goes the "knee-jerk reaction" theory.
I didn't get the idea that you are singling her out, but rather, that maybe more frequent posters are given more lliberal posting freedom.
ETA: I have to be honest, with the frequency that posts get moved to appropriate forums, I really have to believe that SOMEONE has been watching the forums today.....

When I first started posting here, my posts would get moved CONSTANTLY, while plenty of others stayed just on NFR, even if they were on the same exact topic as mine. I figured my posts stood out more and were reported more b/c I was a newbie...

I'm definitely not asking for words to be starred out. I understand the need for CERTAIN words to be.. And as you can see I have been making a conscious effort to censor myself b/c I know full well I can be a potty mouth.
Thing is I think the context of a word should be taken into account. the "W" word has a definition in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a verb and a noun and is not labeled as vulgar. My post was altered within MINUTES of me posting it., so of course I find it hard to believe someone reported me, but I will take your word for it b/c it wouldn't surprise me.
I'm just asking if CONTEXT can be taken into account before we alter posts.
It's one thing to call someone a "W..." I understand. And I also admit my 'altered' post wasn't the best choice of words either... but I don't think it was offensive.
I have no justification for using the c word other than, I will watch my mouth from now on b/c obviously some people don't like it.

If they are only responding to reported posts (which they've said here and I for one believe them), then the people to blame are the people reporting the threads.
So this perceived favoritism is because the 'favored' ones don't get their threads reported as much as those who aren't in favor. Blame each other. A lot of people have stated that they report threads in the past.

this is exactly what I think as well.
trolling the boards for threads on the wrong board is easy...but there is no way the LIF staff can read every POST.
quite simply, NO ONE reported the other post with the word in it. Had someone reported it, LIFAdmin would have taken action.
this is exactly what I was talking about the other day with the "many living by the few"
I don't take exception to LIF's reaction. I take exception to those that read what I have to say, don't like it, and instead of contacting ME (via fm) they report my post.
it's lame. I am not an unreasonable person. I have deleted things that have been brought to my attention as hurtful or offensive by a fellow poster b/c quite frankly that is not why I am here...I don't want to hurt anyone...
but it irks my nerve to think of people with their finger poised on the red button.
it's very unfair and honestly, isn't very "community" oriented.

I'm thinking this now, too.
My OP wasn't so much geared towards Admin, but also referring to other posters on this site who will constantly go after certain people, and report certain people as well.
Regardless, Kim, I do appreciate your response.

There are plenty of message board where all sorts of language is permitted on the internet.
Personally Im glad that some words are deemed inappropriate by LIF and are not used here. If I feel the need to curse, or discuss something not Family related, I go elsewhere.

I think this is VERY true. When I was a newbie on another board, I posted a question technically on the wrong board. But, I did it b/c I wanted advice from that specific group of people.
Because I was new and it was not known that I knew one of the regulars, my thread was immediately reported and subsequently moved.
It was only after the board found out I knew a regular that what happened came out.
I think in your case, it may not be the MODS watching you but certain people who then immediately report your actions.
