Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
i kid you not - every single person to see Emma says the same thing...
dave asked, 'what - is she supposed to have x's over her eyes or something?'????
is it surprising that she seems to be VERY alert and notices everything? Maybe she got her mom's nosey gene!
it just surprises us - people in stores, my parents, his parents....just weird...

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
We ALWAYS got that about Alex - ALWAYS. Even the pediatrician remarked on it everytime we brought her in, and at one visit when she was just an itty bitty baby, he pulled me aside, and told me that I needed to be very mindful to stimulate her.
I'm warning you though... in my case, "alert" turned into "spirited, stubborn, strong-willed firecracker"

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
That is great!!! My DS was alert from day 1 and everybody noticed! I think becuase most newborn baby's sleep a lot may be more relaxed and content. My DS was always gazing at something and even smiling early.

Jess - Samantha is 9 months old and people always say to me, "wow, I can't get over how alert she is" And I'm always like what else should she be?

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
That is great and a great compliment!! That probably means that she will be very inquisitive and into everything. Both my DD's are like that and I hear/heard that all the time. DD#1 is very strong willed and into everything b/c she is constantly exploring. The above poster was right when she said be prepared to keep her stimulated which is a lot of work but fun

When she's awake and we're out, we get the same thing about DD. She loves to look around!

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
I hear this and wonder "could you think of no other compliment at the moment?" I think its cause baby's eyes are so big they seem to draw attention to THEM paying attention. LOL

I like the "alert"
My DS was alert too - I received a lot of comments. Now he's almost 2 and I get "he seems advanced".
I can't wait for him to start school so I get some sort of regular feedback. My mom doesn't understand this but... When I was 6 and failed a spelling test, my mom knew I needed help w/ spelling. I have no idea what to do with DS - what areas he needs help in, what he should be doing at this age, what he should have done by that age...

OMG I get this all the time - still even, at 10 months. I just (to myself) when anyone says it. Just another thing to smile at and keep walking.

Everyone that sees Lauren says she same thing. I admit, yeah she is oberservant but i thought every baby at this age is curious and such. Some times it gets annoying.

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
I have gotten this with both of my children. I am really beginning to think people say this to everyone - because I don't know anyone to whom this has not been said to.

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
I get the same - I take it as a compliment. Tristan's been "alert" from day 1. Some babies just look sleepier. Trust me, they mean it as good thing!

People always said that about DD.
I think they expect babies to be mush or whatever Angelina said about them!

We get the same thing CONSTANTLY with JJ...People can't believe how alert & aware of his surroundings at 8 weeks. Even when he was first born, the nurses were commenting on it...

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
I got that all the time when Cailen was a newborn/infant - people react when a baby's gaze is very intense and serious and follows people closely... I always agreed with them.... He is still that way!!!

ITA. So long as the baby is awake, people consider it to be alert!

We got it all the time too, especially in the hospital, he could hold his head up from very early, so I think that made him look more alert too

We were lucky, and Christopher's "alert" just is part of his mellow little personality

Re: Wow - Your Baby is So Alert
I always get that too. My favorite is when someone says that and DD has just woken up from a nap in the car. To me she looks groggy and out of it, and they're going on and on. It must be people who don't have babies.
