I really loved my OB/GYN. He was fantastic but I am a little upset that he doesn't deliver at South Nassau. I know I am totally jumping the gun. He only delivers at Winthrop and Mercy. I def do not want to deliver at Winthrop (JMO) and I really wasn't a huge fan of Mercy.

Would you switch just to deliver at South Nassau?

I picked my OB-GYN just so I could deliver at NS Manhasset.

ETA: I also needed a high risk doctor/one who specializes in multiples so that drove the decision as well.

Same here. Needed high risk for my cardiac issue, not multiples. Also wanted NSUH Manhasset because of the NICU and if God forbid I needed heart surgery right then and there, my cardiologist at Columbia had four colleagues at NSUH that could have handled it. You are not crazy. SO much goes into picking a OB/GYN, including the hospital they are affiliated with, IMHO.

I wouldn't leave an OBGYN just to be at a certain hospital. I think it is hard to find a Dr. that you completely trust and are comfortable with and considering how much time you actually spend in the hospital it wouldn't make sense to me.

Just curious why don't you like Winthrop? I had a great experience their and I wouldn't have changed it at all.

I honestly have nothing against Winthrop as a hospital but rather its location is very bad for us. I rather be closer to home.

My cousin travels from Franklin Square to deliver in Good Samaritan in Islip. I would not change doctors because it's too far.

I wanted North Shore Manhasset but couldn't find any doctors that took my insurance and delivered there. I will be delivering at Winthrop and I live in Seaford. I think what counts the most is that you like and feel comfortable with your doctor.

I don't think I could have been further from NSUH Manhasset as I live in Suffolk. I did worrry about distance, and rush hour on the LIE, but quality of care and the experience of my doctor was much more important to me.

Like a previous poster said, the NICU was very important to me as well and it turns out Chat Icon needed to be admitted on day 2. The NICU staff was excellent as well as all of the staff I encountered.

I wouldn't switch. I moved about an hour away from my OB and still have him.

I don't think its strange. I love my dr, but we live kind of far from him now but I'm used to him and his staff, and love the hospital he's affiliated with as well, and may stay with him just for those reasons for our #2..

You could always try another dr to see how it goes and always go back to your old one!!

Absolutely not. You are with your doctors for 9 months (and a lifetime as a GYN) and in the hospital for less than a week.

I wanted Winthrop or North Shore. I love my Dr and I am lucky she delivers at Winthrop. I love my Dr and if she delivered anywhere else I have considered switching.

Yes, I switched in my 6th month after I saw the hospital my Dr only delivers at.

No way. I live in St. James, my OB is in Garden City and I delivered at Winthrop. travel time and inconvenience was far less important than the faith and trust I had in my doctor.

I did ! I truly wanted to deliver at St. Charles hospital. You can always go back to your reg. dr. after a year or so...why not?

nope, I wouldn't. Your delivery is a one time thing, you stick with your doc for a long time.

Me too. I've been seeing the same OB forever, and love him to death. Would not switch at all.

Re: Would you switch OB/GYN's just so you could deliver at a certain hospital?

I would switch, I picked my gyn/ob based on his location of his offices and hospital affliation, he was rec'd to me.

I love my hospital and docs.

After I just witnessed what my SIL went through at her hospital and the lack of care for her and my niece-I am sooo glad I have a different hospital and truly loved my birth experience there and can't wait to go back for #2.

Exactly. I traveled to NSUH Manhasset from MONROE, NY an hour and a half away. It was worth EVERY mile and tank of gas. Having been through a c-section and a heart surgery, the hospital you are in makes ALL the difference in your recovery time, the NICU, so many factors. What is something God forbid goes wrong? That is what I would be thinking...
