Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

I am getting so many mixed reviews on AK.

We will be in Disney for 5 nights/ 6 days.

I want to 100% do Magic Kingdom twice, figured one day Epcot, one day HS, should we forget AK and do another MK day or Epcot day?

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

For my first visit, we skipped. Next time we go, we will surely go for a half a day. I would rather skip Epcot again if I had to skip one.

I dont know what to do.

We most likely we get to FL early on arrival day so trying to decide. Last time we just did DTD that first day but we got in later.

I am thinking we should do a park the first day.

so was going to do
Arrival day: HS
Day 2: MK
Day 3: Epcot
Day 4: AK and maybe DTD for dinner
Day 5: MK
Day 6: depends on flight time (maybe a character breakfast)

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

If you have park hoppers I might do-

Arrival day- MK
Day 2- Epcot
Day 3- AK/MK in the evening
Day 4- HS
Day 5- MK
Day 6- ?

That would give you lots of time in MK and you'd get to see all the parks.

If you don't have hoppers I would still do MK on your arrival day and on day 4 either split between AK and HS or pick one.

I've skipped AK before and didn't really feel like I was missing much. Especially since I go to Disney pretty frequently I don't feel like I need to see it every trip.

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

We just did AK this past summer and I had mixed feelings about it. I was disappointed that there weren't that many rides for a 2yr old and 5yr old. And we didn't even need a full day. On the flip side, the character breakfast was great and the shows there are unbelievable- like give you the chills unbelievable. I would definitely go back, and even look forward to it, but I will probably wait until both boys are taller and can go on more rides.

This is almost my exact itinerary every time we go to disney. For our family AK is a must. DD loves the animals and it has such a different feel than the other parks. It is really only a half day and we go to DTD or another park in the evening.

Ok ladies so AK it is especially since we have the time and my DD is a huge animal person. Maybe I'll do DTD for dinner or if we go the park hopper option we will do MK that night. Thanks!

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

My kids were 3.5 and 2 when we went and they enjoyed AK more than Epcot. I would do AK over Epcot again. Epcot is so much walking with no shade, more for older children imo-my kids just didn't get the innovation part of it-they spent the day just looking for characters.

If you aren't paying for park hopping, I would skip it. It's not my favorite park to be honest.

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

For a 3yo, I would pick Animal Kingdom over Epcot.

DS loved playing in Dinoland. They had a triceratops ride (similar to Dumbo) that we rode multiple times. Finding Nemo show was fabulous. We are going to AK Day 1 next week. We are looking forward to seeing the Lion King show and going to Camp Mickey Minnie. We missed it last time because we were exhausted. AK is huge.

I was a bit underwhelmed with Epcot. I especially thought the Talking with Crush was anticlimactic. If we have to cut something out next week, we plan to skip Epcot. It took us a long to walk around the World and I wasn't especially wowed by anything in any of the worlds. We went to all the fun stops and was disappointed that they were all the same bear art and craft.

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

Great decision. I think AK is a great park, especially with kids. I actually just blogged about why it's my favorite park. I think most people who don't like it or say 'skip it' don't realize it's a very different park and has to be toured differently. It's not about running from attraction to attraction. it's about savoring all of the details.

I always get in a bad mood there, it feels 10 degrees hotter than any other park, and it's just a pain to navigate IMO. With that said, my children want to go this time around, and since we didn't last time, I might cave.

Yes..and I felt like the streets were so tight. Maybe it's just me..but I am skipping it next time. I will go again once the kids are a bit older.

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

We are here now and we loved Animal Kingdom. We took my 3 year old and 1.5 year old and our whole families. I just loved how green and open everything was. It felt so peaceful, especially back by Rafikis Planet Watch.

We were at Hollywood Studios today and honestly that wasn't great. There wasn't much for the kids other than the Disney Junior show. DS liked some of Beauty and the Beast (he doesn't like villians), and hated all the other shows (MuppetVision, Little Mermaid), because they were in the dark.

We personally like the AK. While we like HS it was not as big of a hit with my girls. I like HS for older kids. IRL my friends feel the same. If your children like a lot of shows then HS might be a better choice. This is what I tell people. Go to allearsnet.com, go to youtube. Check out and read up on the rides and shows and see what appeals more to your children. There are 4 parks and people like some more than others but you have to pick the one that is right for your interests.

I completely agree with this! My kids love AK but can't find much or them to do at HS.

Re: Would you SKIP Disney's Animal Kingdom?

We have been to Disney World three times with our kids. We usually only go for four nights and so try to make the most of the time we have.

The first two trips we skipped Animal Kingdom, spent most of our time at MK and Epcot, and one visit to Hollywood Studios.

Third trip we decided to put Animal Kingdom in the itinerary and I wasn't a fan. Our visit there began at "A Bug's Life", were we stood in a packed underground cave for almost an hour only to be told the show was malfunctioning and we had to leave (they did start it up again shortly after and didn't offer to make up for the inconvenience). Maybe that started me off on a cranky note but I just did not have as much fun there as the other parks.
