I think Animal Kingdom is awesome for little kids. They will get a kick out of the animals in their "backyard"!
There is a musical parade on some nights where the kids get instruments and they parade around the lobby. It's adorable! You can carry the 1-year old in the parade.

Well for theme definitely the AKL; however, having said that I would probably pick the WL if you won't have a car b/c it is closer to the MK and Epcot if you plan to rely on the buses. The hotel was built by the same the same architect so they are very similar. If you have a car go for AKL though b/c it is the most unique experience having animals all over you hotel.
I have stayed 2 times at the AKL if you have questions. Both are great resorts and you can't go wrong w/ either choice!!!

when are you looking to go? If you are going before end of March there is a buy 4 get 3 deal out now - if you check mousesavers (you pay for 4 nights of hotel and tickets and they give you 3 nights hotel and 3 day park tickets for free) you do have to pay for the dining plan for all 7 if you want it though. It is a good deal.

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge last year and loved it. The buses and ferry were extremely convenient.

We LOVE the Wilderness Lodge.
We stayed there 2 times/ last year and this year and we think its awesome. We just got back 3 weeks ago.
It has a great atmosphere (peaceful and relaxing and also fun for the kids. Its so convienent to get to all parks as well.

i gotta vote the Wilderness Lodge also. We stayed there 2 years ago when my dd was 5 and ds was 3. We loved it. The transportation is fantastic, and we liked the restaurants they had also. Plus they have a great pool, and nice little beach area.

I love them both, but with children that young you will be spending most of your time at Magic Kingdom so I would recommend staying at Wilderness Lodge because it's closer to MK. You can take the boat right over to the park - the kids love that.

We stayed in Wilderness Lodge last time and got to see the castle from our room and watch the fireworks over it... I loved our room!

The Wilderness Lodge is closer to the Magic Kingdom. Animal Kingdom Lodge is close to AK but far from everything else. DH and I have stayed in Wilderness Lodge and loved it.
