I don't understand why everyone feels the need to jump on kitten everytime she posts something that doesn't go along with the majority. It's really getting old.
This is my last comment bc I truly do not care but I have never 'jumped' on kitten, I quoted her comment bc I felt it was judgmental and wanted to say that discussing large financial decisions is "letting" you're spouse do something, she then complained SHE was being judged after she judged
If she does get jumped on maybe it is bc she is rude in her replies like she was this time.
This is my last comment, not getting sucked into LIF's circle of save the nasty poster

I made statements about MY own life, and if you think there was some implication about the OP and her marriage that's a stretch you are really trying to make. I don't care what she chooses to do, I simply stated that would NOT have a problem with my husband buying a car if it didn't take food off my table or prevent me from paying the mortgage.
You're reading between the lines and trying to find judgment in my statement that simply isn't there. I reiterated the use of the word "let" as the OP stated that in her title.
If other people choose to discuss this kind of thing with their DH, that's fine. I never said it was wrong.
This is what you said:

I don't "let" my DH do anything. We are both equal partners. If we were financially capable, he'd be free to make that decision on his own. I wouldn't necessarily expect him to discuss it with me, but I'm sure he would
IMO your response was judgmental and snarky.
You can dance around it.
You can call out others as "judging" you.
But I think majority rules on this one
I stand by my statements and if people just want to interpret it to create drama, that's on them. I am not going to continue arguing semantics because people are taking this too seriously, like I am passing some blanket judgment on every single marriage in the universe which just isn't true.
No drama from me. We know couples with completely different finances and that works for their family.
DH and my finances are completely comingled and everything is ours. We do consider ourselves equal partners but this car that DH wants is pricey (~$100k).

So you would expect he just roll up one day with a new set of wheels? Yeah right.
Why not? I can't even begin to tell you how many times my dad did this growing up. We had a family car so what difference did it make what car my dad showed up with. Between corvettes, miatas, race cars, motorcycles, pick up trucks....you name it and he never asked my mom permission. They could afford it so it was a moot point.

It's the internet, you read her comment as judgey, I read your comment as judgey. Meanwhile you could be dancing around in a pink tutu singing with your LO all the Barney tunes and not meaning it that way. Everyone needs to CHILL OUT and stop taking every freaking post so personally and trying to teach everyone how to act. If you disagree with someone DON'T COMMENT. It feeds the monster!

Re: Would you let your DH buy a convertible?
Wow.
If the car were in our budget and the logistics of him being able to pick up/drop off our kids worked- then I wouldn't mind a convertible. I wouldn't want the kids in it with the top down on parkways or other MAJOR roadways, but other than that- I'd be cool with it. He's the one that would have to deal with getting them in and out of a smaller car- but safety wouldn't be a concern as long as the seats fit and were installed correctly.
I don't see this as much different than my DH going out and buying a van as his vehicle. He insisted he needed it for work. I disagreed, but he got one anyway. At least the convertible would have a place for carseats!!
We have to switch cars if he needs to do something with the kids (which means he RARELY does).
As for the comments about "let" and "equal partner"- I would say that before we had children, I wouldn't have cared what he bought as long as we could comfortably afford it and I could ride in it. Now that we have children, I feel he doesn't really think of the logistics- so I need him to consult me so I can remind him that we have 2 (almost 3) kids that need to be carted around.

Re: Would you let your DH buy a convertible?
I "sort of" went on board with buying a special edition Mustang GT Sherrod (sp?) (DH's dream car).
My kids fit in the back in boosters and they LOVE to ride in it.
I say "sort of" because we were talking about it for about a week, and one day it showed up in my drive way.
I joke around about it with him (call it the other woman, etc), but I think it's a fun car.
I just wish he would've waited until our kids were out of their $$$$$ preschool/daycare to buy it. But if finances were of no concern, (and it doesn't sound that they are for you), I would have no problem with it.
eta: It is our 3rd car. But, I HATE having 3 cars to maintain.
And, I can't even drive it because it is stick...

Would you let your DH buy a convertible?
If he wants one, can afford it and whatever, I could care less. Its not like it would be our primary car. Id give him a budget and let him have fun. "let" lol. Ironically, I would put my foot down if it was a motorcycle but I'm crazy like that.
A car is a car. Ironically, I was thinking of getting a miata for my commuter car but AJ can't fit in it at all so I nixed it.

Re: Would you let your DH buy a convertible?
I'd prefer it to be a 3rd car. There's a car I want that isn't even too expensive but it isn't practical for a family. I am waiting until I either don't want it anymore or it can be a 3rd car.
