Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
I would not. I have read about vaccines and I would still prefer to vaccinate. I am a bit surprised about the responses, though, because last time this topic came up, more people were in support of having their child get chicken pox "naturally."

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
Almost Def! Actually getting chicken pox will offer my DS a better lifelong immunity as opposed to the vaccine!!

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
I wouldn't, I had always thought chicken pox was a pretty minor disease until my nephew ended up hospitalized when he got a blood infection from it.
If my DS caught it I'd deal with it, but I wouldn't knowingly subject him to it.

I am sorry , but WHAT???? What is a "Chicken pox party" Never heard of this. Can someone please explain?! If this is a stupid Q I'm sorry:blush
It's a party where one of the guests (I guess the host?) has chicken pox.. The point is to get chicken pox.
I'm skeptical...i had chicken pox when I was in fourth grade and my sister never got it from me despite living in the same house.

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
Probably and i am not getting my DD vaccinated against it either. The vaccine does not completely protect against it and I don't want to risk her health by her maybe getting it as an adult or worse, when she is PG someday!

Yeah-but that was before there was an alternative.

i agree. i would never do it to him as a baby, but i think if he was 5 or 6 years old (or older) i would.

yes, there is an alternative, but unfortunately the chicken pox vaccine loses its effectiveness after only a few years.

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
When my sister got it, my mom had me eat from her spoon hoping that I would get it. I never got it...turns out that I am immune to it I dont know if I would go now though.

I absolutely would!
I actually went to a "CPP" when I was 9. Worked like a charm!

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
I definitely would. I would much rather my children can CP and have lifelong immunity.
When our parents were little, they had mumps, measles, and rubella parties! My Mom told me when she had the mumps everyone in the neighborhood sent their kids over in hopes that they would catch it.

I'd still rather her have the booster as opposed to the disease.

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
I don't think I would send my children to a chicken pox "party", but if we were to go somewhere someone had the chicken pox, I would not keep them away from the other child

Re: Would you go to a Chicken Pox Party?
I don't know a lot about this, but I know that kids do die every year from chicken pox so I would not want my DD to get it intentionally. She is too young for the vaccine and I have to do more research on it to decide about it.

I never even heard of the CP "party" before and I have been in America for almost 11 yrs. reading this thread has me going LOL. I grew up in a different country . When I was little If anyone got any of the illnesses you mentioned above most parents would not let their kids play with the child who had it for a very long time.It was just such a "tragedy" I have had CP,mumps, measles, and rubella and I remember my mom being so worried about my sister getting it too(she did anyway) she wanted to hide her away, lol. I remember not being able to have any friends over(no-one would let their kids come over) or go outside for few weeks

I've lived here my whole life and I only heard about the CP party a few months ago in a parenting magazine.
