Yes, I would do it. I thought they xtracted from your spine, but maybe things are different these days. That would deter me a bit b/ ci have spine/back issues. but if it meant saving a kids life, then thats a piece of cake i guess.

I will be requesting the kit. thank you for posting!

I thought they took it from your spine also... while you were awake! But it looks like they now do it under anesthesia from your pelvic bone. It doesn't sound pleasant, but not nearly as bad as taking it from your spine. And if it can save a life, small price to pay... I would hope someone would do it for me.

One of the medical questions is do you have spinal issues so you may not be elegible...

I would, but I checked the charts and I'm over the maximum weight. It's absolutely something I'd look into once I'm under that weight-since I'm on my way woohoo

Re: Would you ever be a bone marrow donor?

Thank you for this post. I ordered a kit two months ago and still have not done it. I don't know what is taking me so long. I would definitely donate. What's more powerful or rewarding than giving the gift of life? Thanks again!

To be completely honest, probably not. I am VERY medically squeamish...so much so that the thought turns my stomach. For this reason, I have never even donated blood although I would love to.

If a friend or family member was in need, I would order a lifetime supply of valium and get over it.

I am an organ donor, so I guess I'd help a stranger "over my dead body." Chat Icon

I seriously applaud all of you that already are or are planning on becoming a donor. You are amazing!

Re: Would you ever be a bone marrow donor?

Yes I would and I am already on the registry lsit. One of my Girl Scouts 2 years ago needed a transplant and over 3000 people showed up top be tested. My DH and I paid the fee to be tested and if we were a match they would have called.

She did get a transplant, from her twin sister, and so far is doing really well.

There is a pretty extreme exclusion for asthmatics, so I can't donate Chat Icon

I just ordered the kit. It is no longer free - it costs $52. I guess that's a good sign that a lot of people are doing it.

Re: Would you ever be a bone marrow donor?

Yup! Im already on the donor list. I am not a fan of hospitals, blood, and medical procedures but I figure one day of donating and going through all that is worth it to save a life. I mean the procedure to donate is nothing compared to the procedures that the sick person goes through.

Re: Would you ever be a bone marrow donor?

Not only am I on the list, I have donated money so they can further test my "sample" to match me better.

If I can help save someone's life, I'm ok with being a little sore.

Re: Would you ever be a bone marrow donor?

I am already on the registry. I would 100% donate if I was a match for someone, not a doubt in my mind. There would be absolutely no hesitation.

Re: Would you ever be a bone marrow donor?

I didn't even know you could get on a list... I don't know if I could. A close friend or close family member - no hesitation.

A stranger - I don't know if I could be that selfless.

I just ordered a kit. Although the thought of donating is a little scary I'll get over it because you can possibly save a life.

I have been one for years now, but never called. The procedure theses ays is nothing like it use to be. I would not hesitate a second to do this even for a stranger.

You can always look for bone marrow donor events. That is what I did...it was being done locally with a blood drive.

They are over the limit now so the code no longer works.

I just ordered anyway because I would love to help, Mia or anyone. Like someone said it is a small price to pay to help someone live. I really hope Mia finds a match asap! Chat Icon
