Would this upset you?-Updated

Would you be upset if a family member planned a party on your due date?

It's for a birthday at a hall, and its a SIL. And this is your only siblings wife....

I should add that the party is way before the actual bday....

Re: Would this upset you?

I think it would depend on what the party was for and how close I am to the family member. If it was a birthday part for a cousin I'm not close to, then I probably wouldn't care. But if my mom was planning a family reunion party for my due date, I'd be upset. KWIM?

Re: Would this upset you?

Depends on who the family member is.
If it's immediate family, then I would personally be PO'd. Others, I'm not too close with so I wouldn't care.

What kind of party? Is it for a birthday or anniversary that also falls on that date? And how close is the family member?

I'd probably be annoyed... is there a particular reason why they can't do 2 or 3 weeks earlier or later??

I'd probably be annoyed initially but Ive had to tell the same people, over and over, including my mom what my due date is. I hope your SIL just forgot and didn't do it intentionally.

If I had a feeling they did it intentionally for attention or something, yes it would bother me.

I would be upset and I would say something but thats the type of relationship I have with my sis in law.

I know people forget exact due dates but she had to know what month your due. Maybe she should have called you first to check on ur due date.

Oh no, she is FULLY aware that this is my due date... Her response was I just figured that I wouldn't want to go cause I'd be too big and uncomfortable.

Re: Would this upset you?-Updated

I'd be pissed. How inconsiderate.

If someone was having a life-changing event, I wouldn't plan a party anywhere near that date.

It's just common courtesy. What a jerk. Who's birthday? How far away is the actual birthday?

Re: Would this upset you?-Updated

It wouldn't bother me, actually my nieces bday party is planned for my due date. Her actual birthday is the day before. Doesn't bother me, but I don't think anyone should have to plan their events around me. Also a due date is not the definite date the baby is coming, in fact I think very few babies are born on their due dates. So if you haven't had lo yet and feel up to it you can go and if you've already had the baby you probably wouldn't want to bring the baby around that many people anyway even if the party was a month away from your due date.

I know you said she is aware or your due date but do you think she intentionally chose the date in hopes that you wouldn't attend? That's the only way I could see being upset.

IDK on one hand I would be pissed off but on the other it may be a good thing. It will give you some alone time in the begining with your baby. And Im pretty sure your parents will pick your event over hers.

Its pretty inconsiderate of her to think that your parents would be at her party when you are potentially giving birth.

Chat Icon sorry.

Re: Would this upset you?-Updated

I would be annoyed. I would speak with my sibling about it. It feels like she wants to "steal your thunder" since the real birthday is not close to the event date. I would ask your brother if it is possible to have it rescheduled. Now, if it is a friend party and you and your family were not invited, well, it would annoy me, but it is what it is. Most babies are not born on their due date, so long as they visited you in the hospital or soon after the birth then it would be ok. I would still be annoyed.

Yes, I would be annoyed. what if you have the baby the day before, or that day? What are your parents supposed to do? I feel like they should plan it for at least two weeks after your due date. I would speak to your brother about it and tell him you are upset.

I'd be upset.

Its not really all that likely that you will be having the baby ON you due date, but if you do wouldn't some of the guests be at the hospital with you?

Re: Would this upset you?-Updated

Thanks ladies! I do know that it is unlikely that I could give birth on my actual due date but I feel that a little consideration goes a long way. I know if the roles were reversed and this was done to her, it would be world war 3.

Personally I think it's rude to assume that I wouldn't go to the party and exclude me to begin with. That's a decision that I should make, no one else.

BTW... SIL has YET to tell me about this party... So that in itself tells me she knows it's not really cool.

I don't think it was a good choice on her part. If you do end up going into labor that day, I'm sure your brother and parents would want to go to the hospital.

I may be in the minority here but I wouldn't be upset at all. I don't expect people to plan things around MY life. And I'm referring to family and friends. If you happen to go in labor on your actual due date (which hardly ever happens) then I'm sure whoever wants to be there in the hospital while you're in labor will be there. If not, they can visit you after you give birth or the next day. I just don't see why you would get annoyed over that. I think sometimes the pregnancy hormones make us a little more sensitive than we should be...I don't think your SIL is doing this to spite you.

My SIL had things planned on the weekend I gave birth and she just came to see me the next day and everyone hung out the whole day with me. I don't expect people to change things around for ME.

ITA with this as well. Live and let live. I was two weeks late with my first and absolutely fine. Besides, you might go early, you just never know. I'd much rather go pregnant than with a newborn! Chat Icon
