Working WHILE pregs...

I really had a thought today.

Last month my husband and I were talking about me going off BC.

This month I just ordered Pre-natal's (over the counter).

So I am due for AF this week, starting my new pills on Sunday....if we do.

But my job is sorta phsical. I dont reall think I can work and PG (at THIS job). I work for lawyers and i'm in court a lot. I cant get up to pee when I want.

What happens if I have to barf?

I have to carry heavy equipment....

So basically, I dont know if I can really work at this job or not. I can do sales for my company.....i'm REALLY good at it. But I'm just not feeling it really.

Just a vent and loking for your thoughts ladies.

Thanks.

luckily i have a job that i dont really have to worrr about that...

I dont really have any advice other than speaking with your boss and seeing if there is an alternative to your heavy lifting...

When I was PG with DS I had a position that really didn't allow me to run to the bathroom every second of the day. I had REALLY bad m/s and I actually quit my job when I was 13 weeks along! It was just too stressful for me!

Re: Working WHILE pregs...

If you and DH decide to go for it and you have a good relationship w/your boss, I would discuss it and see what you can work out. Maybe you could do sales just for the time you are preggo and then go back to the job you are doing now. You never know what your options are until you ask.

Re: Working WHILE pregs...

I was a teacher and I survived the school year pregnant. (I was 6 months in June when school ended) I didn't have to carry anything heavy but I had to take a ton of stairs every day, I was on my feet all day, and it was of course very hard to get a bathroom break but all that being said, I managed.

Honestly, it really doesn't get hard or uncomfortable until the last 2 months. Up until that point you'll probably okay if you can get away with no lifting anymore at your job. I commuted 2 hrs. each way to and from work so you get to know the bathrooms all across the island and although I never needed them thankfully, I carried barf bags. Chat Icon

I'm also a teacher and in no way can run out of the room. If I get a BFP this cycle, I'll be due 2 weeks after school gets out. I'm more concerned about ms at the beginning when I'm not telling, how to explain that to 8 year olds.Chat Icon

Re: Working WHILE pregs...

im a nurse and worked in a nursing home as a med nurse while pregnant with my frist.. it was incredibly stressful considering i found out i was preg on the day of my interview so i was keeping it a secret... i had to lift elderly patients, be around air born desises, shingles, chicken pox, deal with rotting flesh wounds, i had terible nausea and to top it off worked 3 12hr shifts a week but got mandated (which means your unable to go home when your shift is over) and had to work an extra 4 hours each day of my shift so 12 hrs went to 16...i did this for 24 weeks.. i would call dh hysterical crying that i didnt feel good and that it was too much... but he was out of work and i MADE IT WORK!! but because of all the stress on my body i ended up going into crazy preterm labor that they almost couldnt stop and almost delivered at 24.5weeks.. so i was out from that day forward and we made a deal that i would no longer work with any other following pregnancys i feel that it was the sole cause of my preterm labor

Re: Working WHILE pregs...

I was a medical intern during when I was PG. It was physically demanding. I was constantly running up and down stairs because elevators took too long and had LONG hours standing and unable to drink water because of hospital rules. Imagine me running to a code 6 1/2 months preggo in the middle of the night - because I was "it" sometimes.

I ended up with a lot of contractions towards the end, but eventually got induced. I was downgraded to lighter duty (meaning some sit-down time) towards the end as well to help with hydration.

I'm glad I did it the way I did - 2 quick pushes and he was out. Easiest labor I ever saw! I was back to running a week later!

If I were you I'd see how it goes...you want to take allowances after the baby arrives, not before!

Re: Working WHILE pregs...

I won't have a problem working prego's but I would def talk to your boss. You never know what he'll say. If he's a
pr!ck about it then maybe you don't want to work there when you do have DC; can't even imagine what will happen if you need to pick DC up from Daycare early one day.
