Absolutely born.
I do not think an environment can cause someone to become gay. If that were true, than another environment can cause someone to become straight.
well said.

Re: WITHOUT drama - Thursday Poll
Most of my closest friends are homosexuals (both men and women). Heck at my wedding some of my family left early because men were dancing with men and women were dancing with women. I have had conversations about this very subject with them numerous times. All of them say that they feel they were born that way. Many of them tried for many years to fight the feelings because of societal views, but ultimately they decided to be true to themselves and seek happiness. Even if that meant being gawked at and denied equal rights.

I wouldn't really know for certain w/o being gay, but I think they are born gay. I have a gay cousin, and his mom told me a long time ago that she always knew he was "different" even from when he was young. I think you're kind of pre-destined to what gender you will be attracted to, male or female.

This is MY opinion.
Most gay people are born gay. In addition, you can see it in their facial features. Some men have more "refined"/fine features. And some women have also more masculine features.
I think "some" people become gay (and I am thinking mostly women) because they are fed up with men.
I think most of people "become" gay because they are "trying" things.

Born. I also think it is genetic, not always but definately in some cases. I know many gay people who have gay siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, etc. My sister's friend is gay. He knew when he was little. His sister was watching Captain and Tenille and his sister was saying I love the captain and he was chiming in me too! Why would someone choose a lifestyle that is so hard for society to accept.

Re: WITHOUT drama - Thursday Poll
I think that people are born gay. Who would choose a difficult life? Think about gay couples who so desperately want children. If it's something you choose, wouldn't you just be with someone of the opposite sex, then? Supporting my theory that it is something you are born with is the fact that every one of my gay friends believes they were born that way. I've also read studies that the pituatary gland in a homosexual person is an abnormal size compared to those who are heterosexual. I believe that there will soon be concrete evidence to support the fact that you are born gay, not made gay.

Agreed on all accounts.
Out of all of my friends, past and present, that are gay only ONE thinks that he wasn't born that way. He was always very effeminant (SP?), but swears that the thought never even entered his mind until he was in grad school and a situation arose. Even looking back at times that he was with women- he still says that that felt natural at the time, not like he was missing anything or 'faking it'. But, he's the only one (out of many) that has felt that way.

what?? that makes absolutely no sense. Alot of women that are "dykes" dress more "masculine" they don't naturally look that way because they're going to be gay in life. what about lipstick lesbians? that doesn't really support your theory.

Shocking that You would be the one to bring it to another level.
Maybe try to UNDERSTAND (yeah, what a concept) her words and what she's trying to say, than putting your own twist on it.

I think genetically born gay. My SO's one side of his family which is his dad's has three homosexual people on it. And it's close to it being almost different generations.

I voted becomes only because I see alot of gay men that have issues with either not having a father or having issues with their father so I think that that may have something to do with it. I think its a bit of both genetic and enviromental.
I couldn't disagree more. I know an unusally large amount of gay men. Not to stereotype by any means, but I work in fashion LOL! I have also known 2 gay men since they were born. They are now 30 and 28. YOU ARE BORN GAY. It's not a choice, it has nothing to do with Daddy, or Mommy issues for that matter. I do believe that homosexual "tendencies" are displayed more and more as children grow to be young adults. Just as a hetero person becomes more "in touch" with their sexuality. I also know that society still makes it very hard on these poor guys to come out and be open about their sexuality, which until they are ready, will force them to mask their homosexuality.
I played barbies with with my best friend (gay) when all of his frinds were playing GI Joe. We were 3, our parents still remeber LOL!

Your ignorance becomes more apparent in every post. Not that I have an opinion on the OP's statement, I just don't understand how you could take it "there."
Perhaps, you are just "attention hungry" and missing everyone's attention on you. No such thing as bad publicity

I think it's definitely born.
I was a born "hag". All the boys I was very good friends with from childhood to now are all gay. Apparently I'm drawn to them and they to me, lol.
Looking back now, if I would have known what being gay was, I would have known it right away. At least I have good "gaydar" now.
There have been scientific studies done showing an abnormality on the Y chromosome that produces a different protein than a straight man, which is why the majority of gay men like to do the same things as women (shop, talk on the phone, fashion, etc) rather than "men" things (cars, sports, etc). I never saw anything about lesbians, but I'm sure it has to be along the same lines.
Also, in studies, they have noticed that more often than not, it's one of the last boys born in the family ( all the guys I'm friends with are not the first child in the birth order).

How's this for weird - a friend of my SIL (a guy) is gay - and HIS sister is a lesbian...how's that for strange!
I know a brother and sister who are gay as well
Did anyone ever see that episode of Oprah? She had a family on that had 5 or 6 brothers and sisters and most of them were gay. It was very interesting.

I have always had an opinion, but it has been confrimed with the birth of my son. It has always been 100% clear that he is attracted to girls. Before he could speak well, he would point to the pretty girls line at the supermarket. And my friends who have spent anytime with him now at age 5 can tell you. He knows what he likes

I was saying something similar to DH about DD who is clearly attracted to a men and has a type.
For those that think that you become homosexual, does that mean that heterosexuals also become heterosexuals as well?

Born gay.
There are people I knew through childhood that you just knew something was different - at the time we didn't think gay, but in HS, it was clear to us even if it was something they wern't ready to adress yet.
If you are born gay and the environmental conditions do not support it, then you are a repressed homosexual, and may unfortunately have to resort to tapping eople's feet under bathroom stalls....

I'm going with born.
there have been scientific studies that show size differences in certain areas of the brain of hetero and homosexuals.
I have read that most people are on a spectrum, most fall somewhere in the middle (not exlicitly hetero or homo) and there are those that fall at opposite ends (expressly homo or hetero)
ITA!
Although I know a few people who come from very odd types of abuse (being dressed like girls as a child, etc) who are gay, I don't know if that can make a person gay though.
ETA: I agree about physical features (in some cases, not all). Also, I have first graders in my class. There's one I'm pretty sure is gay. Fh has friends he's been friends with since early childhood, and FH's family knew he was gay since he was a small child, lo and behold, he came out in his 20's.
One of the projects I wanted to do in college, but didn't have the time was that I wanted to study linguistics about why gay men have a certain manner of speaking, you know the stereptypical slightly slurred kind of speech you see in bad pariduies on TV, but a lot of gay men do speak that way, so I was wondering whether it's part of the genetics, or if it's a learned behavior to try to "fit in".

Re: WITHOUT drama - Thursday Poll
I struggle with this very issue myself though I did vote "become gay". My BIL is gay and although I do not believe he was born that way, I don't know of any "landmark" thing in his life that made him gay. Both DH and I will have a hard time explaining this to our kids when they get older. It's not something we really want to encourage. In all honesty though, BIL's boyfriend is the nicest guy, so I guess it has made it a little easier to accept. It's just hard knowing he won't have a wife and a family. Still kinda weird for us.

I do agree that people are born gay, but the birth order thing is the opposite of what I've known in my experience. Two of my cousins are gay (brother and sister), and they are the older two -- their younger brother (the youngest in the family) is the only heterosexual.
