Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
Is there a reason?

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
no clue, but my mom still has hers from 1982.. and she uses is A LOT. So they must be well made if it's still going after 28 years of pretty regular use!

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
i have one, and have used it to make a lot of dough. Regular hand mixers can't mix thick cookie dough and would burn the motor out very quickly.
you can get a lower end kitchenaid mixer for a little over 100, they have higher horse power ones for 300+

So is it only a good investment if you're a serious baker, you think?

I have one, and while I love it, I think a kitchenaid handmixer and/or immersion blender is just fine for a beginning baker.

I love mine. I don't use it that often but I still think it's worth the money.

I would say yes! We have one, but my DH is really into baking, he would not be able to live without it. If it was up to me, I would probably never use it. The hand held one would work for me. They are really nice and ours works great. So worth the money for us.

I swear by mine...I didn't pay for it but if i didn't get it as a gift I would have. It's not just for baking...i use it for mashed potatoes, there are sausage making attachments and pasta making attachments...

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
I love mine. I use it for doughs, cheesecakes, cheese grating, cookies, and I even have the meat grinder. I've had it for six years and it is amazing. I use it alot. But I would say if you don't make doughs or intend on buying the attachments it's probably a waste.

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
I love my kitchenaid! It's so worth the money if you even bake a few times a year, or like to make mashed potatoes, etc. I keep it on my countertop and I use it all the time. So easy to clean and can mix anything, it's so powerful. I use it maybe once a month, which isn't a lot, but every single time I use it, I think, "Thank god I have this thing!"

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
We got ours at my bridal shower. DH is the only one who has ever used it lol. He makes homemade waffles with it on Sundays and mashed potatoes for dinner every once in awhile.

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
im so glad to hear you girls use yours! i got mine for my shower and havent taken it out of the box yet (we just moved into a new house). im *hoping* to get lots of use out of it by leaving it out all the time- i finally have the counter space for it! im a big baker and cooker, but have always used the handheld mixer in the past..

=) I think the same thing..Everytime!
I use mine about 4-5 times a month.
I make lots of cakes and brownies, mix my colored icings, cookie dough, bread dough (and it rises well in the bowl), meringue, mashed potatoes....
I do grate my own cheese so I am very interested in this attachment =) Thanks for the idea!

No, not necessarily.
I bought mine with a BBB coupon & some gift money. I mostly only bake around Christmas, but I love it. Besides baking I use it for whipped cream & mashed potatoes.
I also bought the ice cream maker attachment.

Re: Why are Kitchenaid mixers so pricey?
because they are made by industrial standards and have mostly metal parts. all other stand mixers are made with a lot of plastic parts
they also have a bunch of attachments that are great! meet grinders, slicers etc.
ETA- buy it at Kohls when they have their good sales. I had been watching prices for a long time awhile back and it was the best price around

this was going to be my exact answer! they are commercial quality!! I used to work in a bakery... and they are just like the ones used by professional bakers in bakeries.. just mini versions!!
LOVE mine!! and the attachments are great too!! I'm dying to use my ice cream maker attachment!! I haven't yet.
Oh and they come in such cute colors!! I think for the look too... they are just so nice!! I def recomend getting one. I got mine for my shower and it was by far my most exciting gift!!!!
I also agree with Khols. Sometimes you might get a huge sale with macy's or BBB but just look around.
