Who would you vote for #1
If the election were today.
Presuming it's Obama vs. mcCain
(#2 coming with Clinton v. McCain)
ETA: If you would not vote..why not?

It makes me sad that people say they would not vote. It is so important to get out and vote. I would vote, but I would not select a president I did not support. Since the 3rd party person is not named, there is no way for me to know who that is and if I would vote for them.

if a voter isn't up on politics, it's all for the best that they stay at home..... It's better to not vote, than pull random levers IMO......

I agree, but I also think people have an obligation to get "up on politics" and vote responsibly.
But I think in this case people are saying they would not vote because there is no one they'd feel comfortable voting for. But I think yu can always dig deeper and find someone you like BETTER even if it's not someone you like...
I mean look at 2004. I don't think Kerry was a prize package, but it was him or Bush. If I could have voted for Gore I would have!

Re: Who would you vote for #1
I am very grateful for the right to vote. I have gone to elections, walked into booths and not pulled levers down. I cannot and will not support a candidate, regardless of my political affiliation, who I do not believe in. I am just as much entitled to my right NOT to vote. JMO.
ETA: I never answered the question. I honestly do not know who I would vote for.

That's the only thing I've heard people say that was "scary" about Obama.
I can understand a lot of criticisms about Obama, but I "scary" has never come to my mind.

I'm really surprised with some of these statements that you've been making, Jen.
I like him (politically) more than Clinton, and on a personal level, i find him to be very likeable... but i fear anyone with socialist ideas. And, i completely understand SP not wanting to share her reasons- esp when confronted with a statement like this.

That's great in theory... but some people are simply too lazy to be up on politics and social issues. One thing I learned years ago is that you can't force a lazy person to do 'homework'. It's just like the one home in the neighborhood with the unmowed lawn. It takes a summons or a lawn bill from the town to get them motivated....

She has every right to share or not share her opinions.
Admittedly the "secret jihadi" comment was not aimed at her but over my anger about another thread, and a smear campaign.
If you don't like Obama, that's fine. if you think his programs are socialist or you disagree on health care or guns or whatever that's one thing, but I think people who are making stupid accusations about religion and allegiance are acting out of ignorance.
I should not have implied that this was SoP's reason, and I apologize.

I'm not sure which i would think was better- someone viting just for the sake of it, with no knowledge of WHAT they're actually voting for, or them just not voting at all. I go back and forth.

I think it's your "civic duty" to gain knowledge and I know it's nunenforceable and infringes on all kinds of rights, but I wish they could give a civics test before allowing people to vote. Or maybe list a person's platform without a name, and see how differently people vote from when it's the name and personality. This would be a great experiment.

I agree...IMHO, Jen, you are out of line and have been more than once recently...maybe we should not express our views if they are not in line with your own

Or if you don't want to be disagreed with?
The only thing I've been outspoken against recently is the smear campaign against Obama.
I really do think the whole thing is completely idiotic. Saying he's muslim, having a problem with it if he were, saying we're in a war against Islam, assuming that his muslim background should lead us to question his allegiance to the US.
And of my former thread about the topic, it was originally posted as a response to something I saw on TV, long before the subject was EVER posted about on LIF.

Totally agree. This is why lost of people say you shouldn't talk about politics!
The reason we have A VOTE is because not everyone likes candidates. Thats their opnion. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

But that is not what THIS thread is about
it is obvious who you support and that is fine, but I think it is unfair and plain old RUDE to assume anyone who does not support Obama does so out of ignorence. I am just speaking my mind as far as what you have posted lately, it is obvious that you have VERY strong feeling about this but lets not turn EVERY thread about the election into drama due to a comment that ONE close minded person made
