who would you have a baby for?
this morning, on good morning america, they did a story about a young woman who had cervical cancer. she had a hysterectomy. she was only 25 at the time and a newlywed.
after she was ok, her mother approached her to carry a pregnancy for her daughter.
grandma carried a pair of twins. everyone is happy and healthy now.
made me cry.
my question to you:
who would you be willing to be a surrogate for?

i would surrogate for my sisters. maybe a couple of my cousins because we are very close. Maybe 2 of my closest friends. That is about it.

Re: who would you have a baby for?
I read a story in this month's Glamour on this topic.
I don't know if I ever could - but I'm also not in the place right now in my life where I could make this decision.

Re: who would you have a baby for?
to answer my own question:
my cousin had an infertility scare a few years back. honestly, she hadn't finished the sentence when i told her she could "use my oven".
luckily, she didn't need it. she is the mother of three beautiful girls.
i would have done it for her, two other cousins, and my sister.
i would even do it for a close-enough friend.

Re: who would you have a baby for?
I would have a baby for someone, maybe my sil or someone else that I was close to. I think its a remarkable thing to do and I would do it because i have had an easy pregnancy and delivery in the past with my son.

Re: who would you have a baby for?
The only one I would even consider doing this for would be my sister. I am not sure I could even handle that, though.

Re: who would you have a baby for?
i don't think i could do it for anyone. i don't think i could have this life growing inside of me for 9 months and then turn around and give it away.
I am also pretty conservative when it comes to all that stuff.... i guess i feel that you don't mess around with God and nature. I understand why people do surrogates and IVF and other things to make a baby.... but I am not sure i would do it if I had to. I feel like if I couldn't conceive or someone else coulldn't conceive, then maybe there would be other ways around it... like adoption, for one. i would do that before trying to take over God's plan. i don't think I would be comfortable being only an "oven". How do you tell a kid, "Well, you're part of Daddy's sperm and maybe Mommy's egg, but you grew in Aunt Karen for 9 months..."
No, I don't think I would do it.....

Re: who would you have a baby for?
My sister, without ever giving it a second thought. Perhaps a close friend, if they really needed it, and had no one else.... But I LOVED being pregnant and had a relatively easy pregnancy - not everyone is so lucky!

Re: who would you have a baby for?
I don't think I could for anyone. I don't have sisters, so maybe that would have been an exception to the rule. I don't do well with pregnancies at all- I have been hospitalized and on bedrest with both, so I'm not really a great person to ask. Plus, I form such a bond with the growing baby, I don't think I could carry for 9 months then not be able to raise him/her. But now thinking about this, my brother is gay and has a partner for many years. If they asked me to carry a child for them...I don't know. I might consider it. Thta's how much I love him.

My sister. At one point, we thought I might have to because she was having such major fertility issues. Well, now she's got 3 kids of her own I don't know if there is anyone else in my life that I would do that for.

i'm the same, i would try to adopt if i could not conceive. i don't think i could ever carry someone elses child.

Re: who would you have a baby for?
I have offered this to someone who's story touched my heart in ways I can't describe. I think she's probably the only person I would do it for. I hope she knows the offer still stands.
