Who will be at your house when you come home?

Just wondering if you will have help the day you come home from the hospital. My DH and I have never changed a diaper, fed a baby or really even held a newborn. My mom offered to come stay with us for a few days but part of me wants it to be just my DH and I learning together. Will you guys have help?

My MIL lives out of state and will be staying with us for 2 weeks. Part of me wants to try to just learn with DH but the other part of me knows I will really appreciate the help. I dont have my mom to help so I know that I will have a million questions! Plus im having a cs so I wont mind her doing the cooking/cleaning/laundry! It will leave me with more time with the baby and more time to sleep without my house falling apart.

I can see how part of you kind of doesnt want the help either, do you have family close by that you can just call if you need the help or a rest?

No one other than me and DH and that's the way I want it. It was the same way when I had DS and to be honest we were fine (and we were never baby ppl to begin with). The only thing that someone else could help us with is food, like cooking dinner ect. DH was not going to do this...he would order in but honestly that gets old fast and I was not allowed to do the stairs for 2 wks after delivery so I was pretty much confined to the room w/the baby upstairs. So I had my Mom come w/homemade dinners every or every other night (whatever she could do) and "deliver" it to us it was the greatest help in the world, other than that I was fine just me and DH.

We live with family so have little choice.

Does your mom live nearby that she can drive over if needed or does she need to stay with you? I'd tell her you'd like to take it day by day and see how it goes - if she is close by and doesnt mind 'being on call' if needed.

Us and I think my parents and in laws will alternate.

Just Dh and I. We live in an apartment in my parents house but it's completely seperate. They'll be around should we need something but I think we'll try to spend the first few days just us getting used to everything.

Me, DH and the dogs. I wish they could learn to change a diaper or two. Im sure my parents and in laws will stop by but no more than a few hours or so.

i would like the first day to just be DH and I with the baby and then the grandparents can come the next day, etc. i'm hoping that is what happens anyway!

I wish it was me and dh, but we moved in with my parents, so I'm sure it will be helpful in the long run

But mil and sil are flying here to be here for three days right at my due date....was not too happy when I found out but they live in Cali for I'll guess I'll have to deal with three days

My DH and I decided it will just be the two of us alone with the baby in our house 24 hours a day.

We will have visitors each day - and will welcome the help - but no one to STAY overnight wiht us. And we will definitely welcome help with cleaning and cooking!

Originally, he was thinking his mom would sleep here for a couple of weeks since she'll be coming up from Florida for the baby, but we now are on the same page that it should just be the three of us (me, DH and baby) learning how to be a family together.

Just me and DH but my parents my inlaws and my sisters all live ten minutes from us. So of course they will be by Alll of the time and yes my mom and mil will cook for us. I have a cleaning lady do I'm not worried about a dirty house.

The first day will just be DH & I. I just want us to be alone, absorb being parents, & just taking it all in.

My mom stayed for 2 weeks last time...thank god, bc DH was f'n useless...plus he went back to work 2 days after I came home. This time around, she will stay again for at least a week, mainly to help with DC #1.

This time we are probably going to hire a baby nurse for at least the first week. IMO I would never refuse help. I would be thrilled if my mom was going to stay with me for a few days!

hopefully just me and my dh and my dog who is gonna be jealous as all heck of the baby...well definitly need time to get him adjusted so im hoping everyone well give us atleast 3 days with just us

When we came home, it was just DH and I. People visited here and there, but it was pretty much just us.

To the OP -- you will just figure it out. The apprehension and fear of handling a newborn is worse than actually doing it, because when it's YOUR child it's just clicks. Your mommy instinct will come out of nowhere from the moment you give birth. Don't freak or worry about not knowing what to do. In the hospital you can ask the nurses any questions and they help you a lot when you are first handling your baby. After that, it's just second nature.

I am hoping that it will just be me, DH, our dog and the baby. DH's family all lives within 2 miles of us and I am hoping and praying that they don't get insulted when we tell them that we don't want a welcome home party which was done for my SIL last year.

Just my MIL who will be watching my DS and DD, but will leave once we get home, DH is home for 2 weeks to help me, I don't like having a lot of people over when the baby first comes home!

DH and I never changed a diaper, etc before #1 and DH took care of all the changing in the hospital, since I was BFing, he felt it was his bonding moment. Well he went home to shower and my sister and BIL were visiting me in the hospital and DS exploded on my sister. We all stood there "What do we do!?" I told BIL to get a nurse and the nurse looked at us like we were insane! Point is - you learn fast!

Nobody but us and our two cats. My parents live overseas and won't come over until our is a month or so old and my DH's parents are deceased. I'm sure my sister will be available whenever I need her but we have both had lots of experience with babies so we don't need any help in that area.

Thanks for all of your responses. I think I will tell my mom not to come until my DH goes back to work. (maybe she can come visit for a few hours for 1-2 days). I think my DH is taking off for 1 week. My mom lives 45 minutes away and we dont have any other family around but Im sure we will be ok. She doesnt want to intrude so she will probably be happy with my decision!

BTW how much does a baby nurse cost? Just wondering, just in case.............

i'm sure my entire family will be over! and my inlaws too I'm sure. Although it will be nice to have everyone over, how do we politely try to limit the amount of people that come????
