I haven't been around babies at all so I've never changed a diaper.

when I had my dd, the first time I EVER changed a diaper was in the hospital when she was born...don't worry, you learn as you go..

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is our first Chat Icon. Ready or not, hes coming so I cant even think about being scared. The only thing I really fear is labor. I guess its just fearing the unknown-where I will be when it happens, how much pain I could withstand, delivery complications.. etc. I guess thats just normal. We thankfully have tons of support from family / friends, so I'm confident we will have all the help we need, should we need be.

Re: Who is having their first child?

This will be our first baby. We know that life will change and are embracing it. Dh's sister has 2 very young children so we have been around them alot for practice.

I am not terrified at all.... just absolutely terrified of labor...lol

this is our first. i'm not really nervous though, neither is DH - we are just excited! we are the oldest out of all our siblings and cousins - no one else is even close to being married or having kids, and this is the first grandchild on both sides!

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is my first. DH has 2 children from his 1st marraige but they are teens now. I am scared when I think about it, so I try not to think about it! I have absolutely no experience around babies, but I'm sure it will come naturally.

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is our first and I just freaking out about actually giving birth.

I have a friend who is pregnant with me now, she is a few months behind me and I have another friend with an almost 3 yr old, so she has given me a lot of support and advice.

I've also been around babies and kids my whole life, so I'm pretty prepared as far as what to expect. DH has never changed a diaper, so he is in for a crash course when Chat Icon arrives.

I know this might sound silly, but why don't you buy a doll and practice changing diapers with that and holding it, etc.

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is my first baby but my DH's 4th!! Chat Icon Luckily, he is a great hands-on Daddy so I am not scared about learning from him what I need to do. Before meeting DH and my stepkids, I had no experience whatsoever with children. I feel more confident than I did before.

What I am worried about is being my mother. Lucky for me, I was raised by my Dad since I was 5 years old but still saw my mom every other weekend. I never felt really 'loved' by my mother when I was a kid. I want so much to have an awesome relationship with my DD. I hope I don't end up like my mom. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is our first and I am terrified. We were one of the firsts in our circles to be married so none of our friends have babies. We are also the eldest in our families, both in our immediate families as well as our cousins.

Us too! This will be the first grandbaby for both sides and none of our friends have babies. I am terrified because I just want a healthy baby and with it being our first, I am always scared of a m/c.

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is our first, and since DC decided to surprise us with his/her debut, we were a little caught off guard. DH's been ready so he is more calm about it. Me on the other hand is scared, mainly at the thought that I will be responsible for another human being, and also at the whole pregnancy process (every little pain and discomfort puts bad thoughts in my head!)

We are super excited, I just told my OB the other day that I've never been so happy and look forward to going to doc's appts my entire life Chat Icon

ETA: I am going to have a lot of help after the baby arrives, my mom, my MIL and my aunt all will be staying with me, so the thought of three experienced successful mothers will be helping me with our new born is keeping me calm too.

Re: Who is having their first child?

this is our first. I'm an only child, so it's mom's first grandchild. DH's sister has several kids, and so do my cousins and friends.... that being said, I almost never held them as infants, and never changed a diaper.

I'm a planner... big time. I've bought dvd's outlining the basics, and signed us up for lactation and cpr classes prior to sept. I'm hoping that tutoring will help us get into the swing of things a bit... the rest we'll figure out on our own.

I know mom will not 'tell us what to do'... it's not in her nature to push ideas on people. she might make helpful suggestions though... but it HAS been 36 for her, so I bet her memory may be a bit faded at this point!

Re: Who is having their first child?

This is our first.

We are a little anxious but not scared.

I have been around babies and kids my entire life. I can change a diaper and take care of children with my eyes closed!

Dh on the other hand is a bit more nervous, he has never held an infant, barely has held a baby and has never changed a diaper.

He is very excited yet a bit anxious!

Our first and the first, maybe only, grandchild on my side.

I am nervous about what to do once we get the baby home but I figure we'll learn! However, I am PETRIFIED of giving birth. I'm only 13 weeks and it's keeping me up. I can't tell you the ridiculous things that run through my mind about the delivery. Chat Icon

I was in a similar position. My son is now 8 months old and we are doing ok. Chat Icon I use the LIF everyday and it really helps!! Chat Icon I read so many books before the baby came as well. I figure we just do the best we can and I am sure our children will love us for it.

It is our first childChat Icon
I am the youngest cousin and DH has younger cousins but they are in a different country-
No nieces or nephews on either side and one of the first of our friends to have a baby...

That being said, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous, but I think some nerves are normal... We have family and friends to help and some good friends trying to have babies as we speakChat Icon so hopefully we can do this together!
