Which would you rather have

small basic kitchen and dining room

or

kitchen that you can put a 6 person table in no dining room

I think I would go for a small kitchen and a dining room.

Although the flow of the 2 rooms is important too. If it is somewhat open then it feels like it is all together anyway.

I grew up without a dining room and my mom never missed it. I have one now, but I would rather go with the bigger kitchen and no dining room.

I have a small kitchen and small dining room right next to it. Hate them both. Can't fit a table for 6 and a china cabinet in the dining room, can't get a small table & chairs in the kitchen.

If we decide to stay here long term we're taking down the wall and making one big eat in kitchen.

I have both but I can tell you everyone ALWAYS plops down in our kitchen. I dont even know why I clean the entire house, people sit in our kitchen for hours and dont move LOL

I grew up with formal dining rooms that my mom uses several times a year. So when we bought a formal dining room was a must and luckily we got it. It makes certain dinners more fancy, I don't know why.

SO I vote for a dining room & smaller kitchen. I don't have kids yet, my mom tells me that once I have kids I'll want an EIK someday.

Very tough question for me! We have a small kitchen and a decent sized dining room. With kids, I would love to be able to have a table in my kitchen, but I wouldn't want to give up my dining room either. Ultimately I would want both!

If the dining room is large then I would go for a small basic kitchen and dining room.

I would rather have a big state of the art designer eat in kitchen.

I had a DR growing up and we used it infrequently...I could really go either way with it now. The DR would have to be large enough to house a table for 12 (when extended) plus some kind of hutch and/or buffet.

If I had to choose, I would rather a large EIK.

Definately the kitchen that fits a 6 person table....I grew up in a small kitchen & it was such a pain especially around holidays.

Now I have both a big kitchen & a dining room. We have used our dining room maybe 6 times....To me, it is a wasted room unless you have a lot of company

Definitely the bigger kitchen. In my old townhouse we had a small kitchen (only room for a 2 person table) and a dining room that we used infrequently. I always wished that it was just one big space instead. Now in my house we have a huge kitchen and a formal DR and we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I love having a big kitchen (even if it meant I had to give up the formal DR).

If you plan to entertain family and friends alot then you may miss the dining room. Otherwise, the eat in kitchen is fine.
