Which job would you choose?
I decided that I am not a good SAHM and decided to go back to work. I feel like I am going loony and I'm cranky constantly.
Which would you prefer?
A. High paying job at a well established company. 1.5 hour commute. Would have to leave home at around 7 and get home at 9pm
B. ~60% pay of Job A at a small entrepreneurial company. Growth potential. 10 minute commute. Leave home at 8:30am and get home by 5:30pm.
C. Neither. Give SAHM life a longer chance.

Re: Which job would you choose?
definitely not job A.
I am torn between B and C and other. If you really don't want to be a SAHM, why not do it a little longer while you conitnue searching for the perfect job?

D. How about a PT job?
I work PT and I have to say, that although I would rather be a FT SAHM I also like the adult interaction w/o DS. It's the best of both worlds. Especially if you can afford it!

DH can support us financially. Problem is in my industry PT jobs seem to be non-existent. I would LOVE a PT job.

Re: Which job would you choose?
As a fellow SAHM who wants to go back to work soon bc I don't think I'm a good SAHM, I say definitely don't take Job A. It's too much - I can't help but think that you won't be happy with the all or none aspect of working M-F and being gone over 12 hours per day. If those are you're only 2 choices, definitely Job B!

If those were my only 3 choices, B.
Never in a million years would I choose A given that your DH makes more than enough to support your family.

Re: Which job would you choose?
Definitely B.
Since you don't need the money I would not go with option A. Too much stress on the commuting and too long away from the kids.
A long commute like option A always makes me nervous because God forbid something happened and you needed to get home fast you really can't. Good Luck

Re: Which job would you choose?
NEVER commute. EVER. It sucks. I leave my house at 5am and get home at 5pm. $ is not worth it.
Option B is the better of the 2 jobs IMO.
Can you keep looking?

IF DH can support you financially then the high paying job wouldn't interest me..
Go with B and spend time with those babies!!

Re: Which job would you choose?
I'm not a SAHM, but, I am looking to leave my current FT job...Right now, my job is choice A, exactly. Got home at 8:45 last night, and it stinks. Hate it. So, I would advise against that, even though the $ is good.
I'm currently looking to go to a PT job out on LI...15 mins from my house, 20 hrs a week. While I will be taking a massive pay cut (if I get the job - fingers crossed!), it just makes the most sense for my family and happiness. It's in pretty much a completely different field than my current job, but for the other benefits, I'm okay with it.
It's taken me a long time, and a lot of thinking and stress, to be honest, to realize that there are so many more things that will make me happy and my life better than just making $$$...
Good luck!!!
Forgot to say - I'd go with B!

B.
I commute 1.5 hours each way now but I'm leaving at 8am; home at 7pm. It's only a 2 hour difference but IMO it's all the difference in the world.

Re: Which job would you choose?
C.
Read your Self Confident Baby book, it will make you a very happy SAHM! Its becoming very trendy in the city to go RIE, talk to your friends, they are all trying it or faking it
Its really not appropriate to call it a trend, its such a reasonable way to parent. It respects your baby as well as your self. I'm so glad I found it and a very happy SAHM, I am!

Re: Which job would you choose?
I used to commute 1.5 hours each way to work, and sometimes longer on way home. Just moved 15 minutes from home and I feel like I just won the lottery. I actually get home early enough to spend time with my LO AND DH before bedtime. It's makes me feel as though I have enough (although never enough) time with both of them and still have my career. Definitely B.

I know how you feel...the industry I am in also is not a PT job type of thing.
BUT....IF I had to choose between your choices....and being you DH can support you financially, I would HAVE to choose choice B. Choice A in my mind is NOT a choice. Choice B allows a lot of time with the kids as compared to choice A.
Also another factor I assume is your childcare. You don't want a job where all you do is pay for for childcare UNLESS you REALLY want to be out of the house that badly!

B... but only if all the money you make doesn't just go to childcare. If you can actually save most of your check that would be my choice. If not, then C.

Re: Which job would you choose?
Don't do job A. I had job A and a baby and it wasn't fun.
I say go with job B. My current job let's me work from home twice a week though the other 3 days I leave home at 6:30am and am home by 7pm. They are much more flexible. As a future mom of 2 under 2 and a working mom I was looking for that flexibility when I started looking for a new job.
