D. How about a PT job?
I work PT and I have to say, that although I would rather be a FT SAHM I also like the adult interaction w/o DS. It's the best of both worlds. Especially if you can afford it!
DH can support us financially. Problem is in my industry PT jobs seem to be non-existent. I would LOVE a PT job.
Are you sure job B won't have some wiggle room with the hours? If it's a new, entrepreneurial company they may be more open to an alternative schedule, especially if they are paying so little compared to others out there for a similar job...

B, because of the shorter hours, close to home. I agree.

Re: Which job would you choose?
Would job B have you work OT hours? Or are you set to go home at 5pm? If there are OT hours, would they be paid or just part of your salary?
Also, have you set up your childcare yet? I would make sure option B at 60% of the option A salary will still be more than what you're going to pay for childcare.
All that said, I would definitely go with B.

Re: Which job would you choose?
Not A............not at all. If you REALLY want to go back I would choose option B however, I don't know how long you have been a SAHM for but if it's not long I would say maybe give that a little more of a chance. Whatever feels right to you is the best option.

Re: Which job would you choose?
I became a SAHM/WFHM because I had a job like example A—minus the great pay. I had to commute 3 hours a day to and from the city and got home 8:00 or later every night. While I did love the job, I couldn't hack it because I'd never see DD. Like you, there are very few PT opps in my industry and there are even fewer job opps in my industry out here on the island.
If you really want to go back to work, I'd say go for job B. Being closer to your kids and a flexible working environment is ideal.
Someone mentioned in this in an earlier post...but is there any possibility of becoming a consultant? I went freelance and work from home on assignment basis. I love being home with DD, but I also like that I have work to focus on too. I feel like I didn't lose my career altogether. Right now I have help from my mom and MIL, but if the busy work pace keeps up, I'll probably hire someone to help me out a couple of days a week. I don't know what industry you're in and if it's even possible, but just something to think about.

Re: Which job would you choose?
For me..
If I were ever crazy enough to have been a SAHM for any period of time and it wasn't the end of the world financially...........
B: its a start. PT is always another route but if given A, B & C then B is the compromise with C as a failsafe.

without knowing you and knowing sahm gig isn't one size fits all... I sort of think give it a little more time.
You seem like you wanted it forever...and that infant just might be making your vision a little cloudy right now.
It is so new to you and you jumped right in with a toddler and newborn. It can be so great.
good luck!

Re: Which job would you choose?
How old is your youngest? I think still newborn stage? IMO, I wouldn't make any big career decisions right now. It took a full 9 months for us to find a good routine with DS, and then life was much smoother sailing.
You also post a lot about traveling - are you ready to give that all up?
ETA: DD was 33 months when we had DS, so you have it even tougher, but it does get better!

agree with this totally. when my DS was born my DD was 2 and i was bored to death and going crazy! being home with a NB and young toddler is tough and you can easily feel stuck or lonely...fast forward to now (2 yrs later) and i WISH i never went back..although it's not a choice really for me. i have a GREAT commute and GREAT hours (summers off) and that is the ONLY way i can stomach working..i could never do the option A that you posted. when would you ever see your kids? :( you will hate it especially as they grow up. now that my 2 are older i love life at home with them. we have a schedule, they are old enough to do fun things with etc. totally different than it was in the beginning..so maybe wait it out? or take option B and see how that goes. you might decide as they get older that being a working mom isn't so great either. good luck with whatever you choose!

Re: Which job would you choose?
I would stick it out another few months and then decide. I know it always took me a bit to feel comfortable home and then once I did, it was time to go back to work. I vote hold out a bit longer and maybe another opportunity that suits you best will arise.

Can you have another option. Maybe do a part time job.
If not then I would go with B.

I agree and remember soon your children will go to preschool school. If I was you I would wait until they go to preschool and then look for a part time job.

Re: Which job would you choose?
As a FTWM i beg you NOT to take job A. Theres no amount of money in the world that could compare to the time you have with your DC. I wish DH's income could solely support us so that i could spend more time with DS. I dont think I could ever be a good SAHM but when we have our next baby i plan on cutting my hours to 9-3 daily to be home more. I think that'll be a good balance.

ITA!
If you do want to return to work, #2 definitely (as long as you're still actually making $ after paying expenses like childcare, etc...as others have said)

Re: Which job would you choose?
I have job A now and am desperately looking for a job like B. I am not a good SAHM either and I know this about myself based on my extended maternity leave but I also know that job A often leaves me in tears over missing my little man. I am still in the office now and he is fast asleep. Don't go with A - there just isn't enough money to make it worth it.
My DH can't support us solo and I would still choose B over A.

Re: Which job would you choose?
I would choose B, but I am not you.
YOu have to decide what you want. Many men work those hours and are away from their family for that many hours a day. If this is what you want then go for it. There is nothing wrong with you wanting to do that.
eta>>>>I was so against going back to work after I had my daughters. I changed my mind after two years. I felt they were old enough. I was also going crazy at home. Staying at home is not for everyone. It made me depressed. You have to do what is best for you and your family. It worked out real well for me because my brother watched my girls for me.

I'm currently looking to go to a PT job out on LI...15 mins from my house, 20 hrs a week. While I will be taking a massive pay cut (if I get the job - fingers crossed!), it just makes the most sense for my family and happiness. It's in pretty much a completely different field than my current job, but for the other benefits, I'm okay with it.
I did this when DS was 3months old. It was a great situation! I loved it until my job was eliminated. So good luck in getting it!
To the OP, I say give being a SAHM a longer try really. Simply because it took me a good 6 months with DS to feel like I was enjoying my life as a SAHM. Now with DS#2 only 11 weeks old I am not LOVING it. Its an adjusement. So why not give it a few more months and then decide.
