When you stay at Hotel do you check for bed bugs?
Im 42 an seriously never thought about this,Im going to AC and I just upgraded to a newer room at Harrahs but wondering,do I check?My friend left for AC yesterday and said her sister always checks.How do I even do that?Or should I just go relax and not worry?

I absolutely do a thorough search. I strip the bed and check the top of the mattress and especially the perimeter. I pull the edge of the mattress down to look for any signs of them. I also lift the mattress and check the box spring. Then I check each layer of bedding. I also take the pillows out of the cases and check those. Finally, if there are any upholstered chairs/sofas I look those over as well.
This may sound INSANE to you but I had bed bugs in my room at the Contemporary in Disney. That was a horrible experience and I would never want to go through it again. So, I spend 20 minutes or so to check so I can have peace of mind.

Its the first thing i check in every hotel room. I don't care how fancy the place is, it can happen anywhere.
I pull the covers back and run my fingers across the bed. And I check the sides as well. If they are there and you run your fingers, you will supposedly see streaks that look like blood. I have never found any - knock on wood.

I always check. Youtube how to check for bedbugs, and it will show you what you should be checking in your hotel room.
I pull up corners of the sheets and bedding. I bring a flashlight and look behind the bed, in electrical outlets, in closets, on the wall behind the bed, and always open every single drawer.
I never put my luggage on the bed, always keep it zipped, and bag my dirty clothes. Then when I come home I wash the dirty, and tumble dry the clean. I am super paranoid about them so I do whatever I can.

Can I ask did you bring them home with you? Or did you catch them in the room beforehand? Any hotel can have them, even disney of course! Just curious to hear more about your experience.

I also do the same for the pillows.
When I come home I immediately put our clothing in the wash. Also, wipe down the remote with a wipe. It is the dirtiest thing in the room.

I bring a flat pack of Clorox wipes and wipe everything down, including the remote! But I like the bag idea for double the protection!

I also check for bedbugs in any hotel room.
And, not to freak anyone out, but I check for them in ANY UPHOLSTERED SEAT I sit on. And I shake my clothes out (pant legs, jacket) after I leave.
I don't go to movies anymore bc of this.

My JOB has been dealing with bedbugs for years and millions of dollars! Before anyone else or the luggage comes in the room I check the beds and couches. Then I clorox wipe everything. Bebugs can ruin yourblife and unfortunately I am not exaggerating!

That makes both of us! I always try to stay at a top hotel/resort where I visit so never thought to check for bedbugs. Figure that it would never happen at those fancier hotels, but if bedbugs can be found at the Disney Contemporary, I guess it can happen anywhere. :P

Thanks for sharing the link! Just checked the Holiday Inn Turf at Lake George where I'll stay in a few days and there's been an incidence of bed bugs! :P
Guess I'll have to check once I get there!

Same here. Many many hotel stays ranging from 1 star to 5 star and no issues, never got sick. Not planning on starting now.

You bag the remote?? Or clothes??? If its a remote then that's an awesome idea! I already bag my clothes.
To the OP we always check, never take our clothes out of the suitcase, and never put the suitcase on the floor in the room.
We even check the chairs in the room. We also bring lot Clorox wipes and wipe own everything including the remote.
I'm a nut! I skeeve hotels and we stay in nice places. Doesn't matter how nice.... We thoroughly check.
ETA- just re read about the ziplock bag and saw "remote condom" hahaha that's awesome.

Thankfully I did not bring them home with me. Disney was amazing during the experience. They sent everything of ours out to be cleaned and I do mean everything - luggage, clothes, DD's stuff animals, shoes, etc. They also brought in a bed bug sniffing dog to check our new room because I was totally paranoid we'd have them in our new room. And our entire stay was comped which was great but I would never wish the experience on anyone.
