When to interview pediatricians?
I'm 26 weeks today and have the names of some peds I would lke to interview.
When is an appropriate time to start interviewing and narrowing down the choices?
I have three practices that I want to check out.
Also - if there are multiple docs inthe practice, do you just interview one and go from there, or do you talk to all of them?

I am going to be 30 weeks this Sunday. We have 2 appointments scheduled for July one is on the 9th and one is on the 15th. Figured those were close enough to my EDD.

I think I was 27 weeks when I interviewed the ped that I eventually chose. I don't think its a big deal to wait longer I just wanted to get it off my to do list. The ped I ended up chosing has two doctors and I only met with one, I was comfortable enough with her that I was ok with chosing the practice without having met the other doctor. Not sure whats the norm as far as meeting all the docs though.

Really, you can do it a few weeks before. We wnet at about 35 weeks. The practice we ultimately decided on, has a bout 10 Drs or so. We didnt personally sit with any of them. We met with the office director and she showed us around and we were introduced to the Drs. With an office of that many I wouldnt worry, it was just trial and error and we found a few favorites.

i started gathering questions about 2 weeks ago at about 28 weeks and looking into peds online which took my insurance. Once I found a bunch, I called to make sure they were accepting new patients. Once the initial criteria was met, then I spent a few days online trying to find out information on the doctors in the practice.
A bunch of dr's either didn't take my insurance or weren't accepting new patients, or were only accepting new patients that were delivered at a specific hospital!
Right now I have it narrowed down to 2 groups both within close proximity to my house. We had a phone interview with one and we go in to see the other in about 2 weeks.
They told me that they didn't need to have an answer as to whether we were choosing them until they got the phone call from the hospital essentially.

They have to be affiliated with the hospital you deliver at in order to be allowed to come examine your DC and have them discharged, otherwise you get the on call pedi at the hospital. Probably why they told you that.
And yes, you dont have to notify at all usually, when you fill out the hospital paperwork, you write in the pedi info and the hospital calls for you to notify and have them come up.

I understand in order for my ped to check out my baby they have to be affiliated with the hospital I am delivering. There was one practice that specifically told me they were only accepting new patients that were delivered at LIJ or North Shore as the practice is right around the corner. It had nothing to do with anything else.
But, if you have a ped that isn't affiliated witht he hospital you are delivering at, you can either have the ped on call check you out or find one that will check you out and then go to your practice.
