I would not register for it yet because car seats have expiration dates and if you get it now, chances are it was manufactured a few months ago and then by the time you use it, you will have lost a year's use of it. Also, I had a better idea of what I wanted/needed by the time I wanted to switch.
This. We have a infant seat that goes up to 35 lbs, and ds still fits in it at 10 months. We just bought a convertible during the holiday sales. I got a ton of gift cards when I had ds and we paid for the convertible with those.

My DS hated his infant car seat, so we switched him at 10 months.
DD, is petite and just switched at 15 months

I have the grace 35. I switched at 13 months my dd was well under the weight portion but reached the g

Once he reached 30" which was about 8 months old. We had the key fit 30, so 30" came first. Carrying him around just became way too difficult at that age.

6 months. The infant carrier was just too heavy and hard to get into the car after a while.
ditto and i hated carrying her and the infant seat up and down the stairs.
