When did you start researching your registry items.
I am 15 weeks and haven"t looked at anything yet. just wondering when I should start.

I started registering at around 14 wks, then when I found out the sex at 19 wks I was in full swing...I am 24 wks now and my shower invites just went out..I research things like crazy..I read all the reviews..the Baby Bargains book..I'm a little obsessed.

I had 'researched' a few bigger items - namely the stroller I wanted - ages ago  I'm not really all that bothered with anything else to be honest! But I registered when I was last in New York at around 21 weeks and I just picked things that I liked and that I had read on here were good (ie miracle blankets and sheets and stuff like that).

Same here. But since i work overnights- i have alot of downtime on the nights im not working (and no one else is awake  ). I would DEFINITELY suggest Baby Bargains- i couldnt have imagined registering (or even just picking out baby stuff) without it. I still checked other online and parent reviews for most items, but BB was a necessity, imo.

I didn't really research anything- I was sort of a "bad mom" like that... the main thing I did was take the advise of the BRU sales lady re: strollers and got the snap & go and then a good umbrella (mclaren)- and I was very happy w/o having the travel system.
honestly, no matter WHAT research you do- the first few weeks you'll feel like you are living at BRU (or BBB)- at least I did... it was all trial and error.

I didn't really research anything, I just took my mom with me and handed her the scanner. No but really, I didn't even think of any baby stuff until I walked into BRU to register. I agree with PPs, it's trial and error, you'll be deleting and adding stuff and then after your shower you'll see you forgot things, etc.

Me too. I made a little mental list, then I wrote it down and as I read baby bargains when I got to the item I would write down the brands recommended so when I go to the store I can focus on those. I probably won't register until a few more weeks. I am a little lucky too in that I saw what my SIL got for her shower and I will not put all the stuff she did(I have eliminated a lot) b/c I just don't want all of that stuff. I feel like I still have a lot of stuff from my bridal shower that I haven't used yet and I don't want to do that all over again.

I skimmed Baby Bargains (as opposed to really reading or studying it!) and really didn't do research on anything except to find a stroller with adjustable height handles.

At 16 weeks I registered for the big things online that I knew I wanted/needed and didn't really have to see in person since I went on recommendations (pack and play, swing, bouncy, highchair, exercauser, jumperoo)
After the Level 2 we went and did the rest.

I am going to Italy in two weeks...not sure if I should do any shopping while I am there..

I think I started to look online at stuff at 19 weeks.
I had my Level II at 20 weeks, and I knew I'd be registering after that.
I bought baby bargains, but couldn't get into it. If I read 30 pages, that's a lot.
I cheated when I registered though. My sister picked most of the stuff for me since she just had a baby last year. Anything big I was interested in, I just asked her if it was good (car seat, stroller, etc.).
My DH held the scanner, my sister pointed to a lot of stuff, and I was just along for the fun. I thought it was great. Without her there, we would have been LOST.

What I like about the Baby Bargains book is tha it gives you the pros and cons of a product…then it lists the ratings for it (like grade A, B and C according to them). I really liked that..I could skim the list and see how what I picked rated.
It made me take things into consideration I probably would not have even thought of…like with the crib bedding, it should preferably be all cotton and not a cotton / poly blend…and crib sheets should have elastic all the way around not just on the corners.

Yeah, it's kind of like that. The book is sorted by sections, and it reviews the major manufacturers of baby products and rates them.
Here's the amazon link for BabyBargains. The new 2009 edition just came out. I believe it updates every 2 years.

The cover of the new edition is green. I bought it a couple of months ago and the cover was purple (just to give you an idea if you head to the store to pick it up.)

I started researching around 15 weeks, made a list of things I liked and then got my new Baby Bargains book right before my Level II. After we found out what we were having (20 weeks) we started registering. I'm almost done with it.
