How do you choose registry items for someone

so i check my registry, figuring no one will have bought anything yet since i am not even 6 months, but lo and behold 3 things are bought off it, the funny thing is its the potty and some feeding stuff, like the bowls, so my SIL calls me hysterical laughing asking me who bought the stuff (shes constantly checking my registry), i mean i have things of all price ranges there and nothing else has been bought yet, but someone felt compelled to buy the potty, i just think its so funny as we dont need that for a while and there are other things in that price range dont get me wrong, i am glad someone got it, just mystified as to why they choose that of all things
I think it could be a my DH friends wife, b/c for her shower i bought her the potty, clothes and a bunch of other stuff, but that was b/c i went late and nothing else was available from her registry, maybe she wants to get me the same stuff LOL

I agree, that is a pretty random choice. I usually try to shop once i get the invite so I have a big selection.
I also find that some things off my registry were purchased right away and I wonder how people choose b/c some of the real necessities of all price ranges havent been bought yet but things that are so necessary were bought right away

Well - I have a random story for you - and maybe it will be the same as mine.

When I first registered the most random items came off. Two things of Dreft. Burp cloths, two bottles, and diaper dekor refills. I couldn't imagine what the person was doing with this stuff. Maybe making a basket? Who knows?

All we kept talking about was who the he!! bought all this random stuff off the registry.

soooo - last night DH and I were at my parents house and my mom decides she wants to start showing me everything she bought me. She then tells me to close my eyes - and hands me the bottle of Dreft. She was the one who bought everything - AND - the reason she bought it was because she was embarrassed that I registered for laundry detergent and she didn't want her friends to see it.

She said "If you want laundry detergent go to Pathmark" LOL

Is that normal???
