When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

At 8 months I gave her a small crocheted blanket and it basically serves as her lovey.

I don't know when you're technically supppose to, but my DS is 6 months old and I have a blanket on him right now. We have central air and it gets really chilly in his room. I tried the sleep sack thingy and he gets so frustrated, kicking his feet, etc... So I just use a light blanket and check on him often.

i think at about 5-6 months. DS would cry cause he couldnt move the way he wanted to when he was in the sleep sack so i tried it.

I think if DC can grab for thnngs and move around pretty wll it shouldn't be a problem. I would think 5-6 months is safe.

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

DD still wears a sleepsack at 19 mths but mainly b/c once the blanket comes off, she is still not pulling it on herself like your or I would when cold. So the sleepsack keeps her warm no matter how much she moves.

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

I know I'm breaking all the rules... day 1.

I personally cannot sleep with a blanket no matter how hot it is I need something. I just felt DS wasn't comfy. I know its crazy but he always had some kind of blanket over his tummy.

But it was folded to about 5" wide and just placed over his tummy and tucked under the mattress. It always stays in place.

Occasionally, ill use a thick knit blanket, he'll grab it and pull it up, it will come out of the mattress, (he's very strong) and cuddle with it, but I'm in no fear of him eating it or anything as its really thick, but very breathable, if he happened to put it over his nose or anything.

DS did not get to sleep with a blanket until he went into his toddler bed when he was 2 1/2 years old. DD is 16 months old, in the crib and does not sleep with a blanket.

I started with a blanket when we put DS's a/c on in April. He was about 6 months old. It is one of the receiving blankets from the hospital. He has another lightweight blankey in there that he uses as a lovey...

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

DS is 16m and still no blanket. He moves around so much at night a blanket would really be pointless. He would have it off in two mintues.

Same here. DS was swaddle until 8 months using a rec blanket...(but he always broke out, the swaddling was just for getting to sleep - not staying asleep) then once we stopped swaddling, I would put a blanket on him to sleep!

ETA: he has had a pillow since 14 mo nths!

me three, DS has been using a receiving blanket ever since he stopped getting swaddled. I also tuck it in the mattress and it never moves.

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

Ds is almost six weeks and he has had one from the beginming. At home, from the hospital we swaddled him for a few days but after that we just placed a blanket over him.

Question: if you arent giving them a blanket what do you do during the day when the AC is on and they are just in a onsie DS would be cold

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

We have had a blanket in DS crib since he was 3 months old....In the winter, his room is super drafty (over the garage) & even with the sleepsack on & fleece PJ's, he was always cold. He has always used a knitted one that his Nana made for him. We never had any issues with him pulling it over his face or anything

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

it is really a personal decision, some parents use blankets from day one, others wait

I personally am not comfortable with my kids having blankets at a young age, miki got one when she moved to a toddler bed (at 21 months)

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

I have not given him a blanket yet. He'll be 18 months this week. I think once he's closer to 2 I will probably give him one. Everyone mom will do it differently you have to do what feels comforatble to you.

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

My DD is 1 and still doesnt use a blanket. We always used sleep sacks but whent he weather started to chnage and get warm i just put her in without one. If it is really hot i use light pjs and even tho the AC runs in her room I keep the temp pretty high so she doesnt get chill. I walk in her room all night long to see if it is too hot or too coldChat Icon Chat Icon

Sometimes during naps i just started putting a receiving blanket over her so I can but the truth is she loves sooo much it is off in 10 minutes. so there's no point.

since day 1

When she was in the bassinet it was tucked in on both sides of the mattress. Once we moved her to her crib (3mos) - a receiving blanket went in with her, not tucked in. Right now, she's sleeping with a fleece baby throw and a burping diaper Chat Icon

Re: When did you let DC sleep with a blanket?

from the time ds was born... he did not like to be swaddled since we got him home (which was good because I could never figure out how to do it) so I had a blanket on him in his bassinet.. once he started kicking and moving more then I took it out and now 2 1/2 months, he sleeps a sound 11 hours a night with no blanket, just his pjs.. He is his father's son..

DS is a little over 2 years and we still don't let him. We did for a while, but he never ever got the hang of fixing it on himself...and then one morning (luckily) DH checked on DS and found the blanket (a light receiving blanket) wrapped around his head. Chat Icon

We are now in no rush to use a blanket.

The recommendation is a year, but we waited longer-over 2 years old. They just made me nervous.
