Re: When are you starting solids?
I started at 6 months. I'm following Weston a price recommendations for solids feeding. So that means no grains for a little while (not until one year). I started with egg yolks, and will be trying avocado and banana soon.

Re: When are you starting solids?
I'll be starting at 4 months. My ped said the same as yours, veggies first.
Orange veggies - 3 weeks Green veggies - 3 weeks Fruits - 3 weeks Then grains. . .
She said it was easier to detect allergies to grains when they are given later.

Re: When are you starting solids?
My ped suggested starting cereal at 6 or even 7 mo. We plan to wait til 6 mo and will do veg first. The ped says cereal, veg, sole meats, fruit.

Re: When are you starting solids?
I guess every ped is different. At my LO's 4 month check up yesterday, the ped said to start with rice cereral. I told her me and Dh would like to start with veggies instead and skip the cereals. She said we could do what we wanted to but that the baby will spit out most of whatever we start with bc it will take some time for the baby to work up to keeping food in her mouth and then swallowing it. the ped basically said LO can "practice" the skill of eating solids with the cereals. I'm not starting anything yet, have to do more research and I haven't made up my mind yet. To me, 4 months seems so young to start veggies, maybe at 5 months?

When are you starting solids?
We started carrots, then sweet potatoes a little after 4 months. She loves them! Ped said start with oatmeal, then orange veggies then green veggies I don't want to give her cereal or oatmeal yet so bypassed that and went to orange veg
Ped said 1 meal /day @4months 2/day at 5 months 3/day at 6 ( introduce meats here)

I'll be starting at 6 mos, probably skipping grains and going right to orange veggies.

Re: When are you starting solids?
So I am going to ask a silly question. For the orange vegis 3wks and so on. How do you get your LO to eat the same things for a whole week and not boycott? I feel like DD if she gets the same thing 2 days in a row shes not enjoying it. And forget the Peas she wont eat.
My Ped really didnt give guidelines other than stay away from the berries and Milk products (until a yr and that includes yogurt). Im confused though why if babies can be allergic to berries they make stage 1 and 2 with blueberries and Strawberries??? That doesnt make sense to me

When are you starting solids?
I tried oatmeal at 4mos, he didn't like it so I didn't give it to him til much later. Then at 4.5mos with banana, then avocado, then pear, sweet potato, and so on.
Next baby, I will not start til 6 mos and not give cereal.

When are you starting solids?
I was told orange veggies first and no cereal at all due to the alllergies. Also the nutritional benefit of veggies. The arsenic levels in rice are high as well. And once they start with veggies you can move on to fruit so you wont ever need to feed cereal.
Theres no actual need for cereal. And feeding it or adding it to a bottle too young when its not for any medical benefit leads to the increase in overweight babies.

I had kids 1.5 yrs apart. Even though the trends changed, my ob still says to give the same stuff due to her reasoning:
Rice because it is the easiest first. Kid does spit out most. DD def had a hard time knowing how to eat. Our kids both had a total of 3 days rice cereal in their lives, so don't worry too much about the arsenic.
Wheat next. Second easiest.
Barley most important (she believes people avoid barley early now, so we have increased celiac disease). There is some data to show this, but my kids loved mixed grain, so they get it.
Then orange, then green.
The biggest change was the switch in official recommendation from 4 months to 6 months intro to food. My pediatrician thinks this may decrease obesity but increase allergies to food.
Again, you pick a pediatrician and work with that person. If things worked in the past, they will still work.

Re: When are you starting solids?
I gave cereal at 4.5 months for 2 days (my mom gave it to him bc I had to work and he won't take a bottle) but it didn't seem to agree with him.
I started again this weekend (he was just 5 months) and so far I have given him sweet potatoes and avocado. I think I will do carrots next. My ped said she didn't have a preference about what to give first, just to stay away from acidic foods bc he has reflux.

When are you starting solids?
Our ped said to start at 4 months with mixing rice cereal into fruits. But it made her so constipated so now I've just been giving her fruits or veggies. We usually give her something new to try every few days. So far she's been accepting all the new flavors with no problem.

ETA: DD has been able to due all the cues of "when your baby is ready" so I wasn't worried starting her at 4 months.

Re: When are you starting solids?
We started with rice cereal at a little over 6 months, followed by fruit and veggies. Now we just started oatmeal and next week we'll introduce yogurt. We'll start meats around 8-9 months.
