Whats the 411 w/ Caffeine while TTC...

Should caffeine be eliminated completely while TTC or can you drink coffee in moderation and stop completely during your 2WW? Its been hard enough not having a glass of wine at dinner....i just dont know if i can completely cut coffee! Can someone explain exactly why we cannot have caffeine?!?

If you do a search or even look at the related topics below your post, you'll see that there are many different opinions on this topic.

Some have found caffeine linked to delays in conception. Some have found caffeine linked to early miscarriage.

As for me, I told me RE that I drink a 16 ounce cup of coffee every morning - and he said that was fine. I plan on keeping my caffeine intake to under 300 mg which is said to be safe during pregnancy.

Facts: Numerous studies on animals have shown that caffeine can cause birth defects, preterm delivery, reduced fertility, and increase the risk of low-birth weight offspring and other reproductive problems. There have not been any conclusive studies done on humans though. It is still better to play it safe when it comes to inconclusive studies.

How much caffeine is too much?

all things in moderation.

you can drink during the 2ww, you can have caffeine, you can eat fish, sushi, etc....

do NOT stop living your life while ttc'ing...or you'll just wind up bitter and angry as the time goes on. It may take you 1 month, it may take you 20....you don't want to stop living your life as you know it.

I am not a doctor - this is just how i feel. if i would've cute all the yummy stuff out of my life 6 months ago - the time it took to get pregnant would've felt MUCH longer...

That being said - it may be a good time to try and CUT DOWN your caffeine intake...because once you become pregnant - you shouldn't have much.

Keep in mind - until 6 weeks, you do not share a bloodstream with the baby!

I agree with Jess on this one -- everything in moderation. When I started TTC, I cut back on drinking caffeine, but havent cut it out completely. During the 2WW I still have a glass of wine once in a while and I eat what i want. I still drink Starbucks once a day -- I just stopped drinking soda that way its easier when I do get pregnant to cut back on the caffeine intake.

i still eat and drink everything like normal.. i havent cut anything out... but thats just me
