What would you do?

Please don't quote because I am going to delete this.

I have been at the same job for 6 years now. I enjoyed it when I first started but the job has turned into a very adminstrative position. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that, but it is not what I am good at. I was originally hired as an office manager and I did all sorts of special projects, improved on their processes and created new ones. I am paid very well and I work for a company that has about 28 employyes that revenues 20-25 million a year.

I have been unhappy. The reason my job has turned into the job it has was because the girl who handes all the administrative stuff got pregnant and she is now out until August. they were going to hire someone to replace her, but never did. Then, business became slow, so they couldn't cost justify it , as they say. So they just dumped everything on me.

Fast forward to today. I went on a job interview with another company. They have the same type of business but different industry. They were advertising for an office manager, and when I met with the guy today, the job is basically what I used to do at my current job. In addition, I would manage all his employees. The salary is $5000 more, he will pay for my health benefits (other than that I don't get any 401K at my current job so that is the only benefit I really need). The hours are better (right now I work 8:300-5:30 and 10-7 alternating days and I HATE the 10-7 ) My hours would be a standard 9-5. The commute is about 5 minutes longer- so that is kind of a wash. no big deal.

The guy claled a few minutes ago and wants me. he offered me the job - I really want to take the job. I am excited about it.

The only problem I have is leaving my company high and dry because that one girl is out.

But if I don't take this job, nothing will come along like it again. I know this.

What would you do? feel bad or worry about yourself?

sometimes in life you have to do what's best for you.

it seems this is a great opportunity for you, I would go for it.

Company's get by - they always get by.

You have to do what is in YOUR best interest.

I would definitely take the new job you've been offered. It sounds like you've gotten as much as you can out of the old job plus you're basically doing 2 jobs for one salary.

In terms of how to tell your current employer, I'd tell them that you've accepted an amazing opportunity somewhere else in a managerial position. That your start date at the new job is in 2 weeks and, in that time, you'll do whatever you can to assist them in finding a replacement or completing your outstanding projects.

I would take the new job. It's nice to have loyalty towards your current company but if push came to shove it would not be reciprocated.

Take the new job, you are burnt out at your curent job and it's not going to get better. You need a change of scenery and this seems like the perfect opportunity. Don't feel guilty about leaving them, they didn't feel guilty about giving you an extra job!!

i'm also in the middle of a job dilemma right now, and I'm going to tell you what I keep reminding myself.

You need to look out for yourself..no one else is going to, and they will survive without you.

Its not an easy decison but ITA with the others, you should do what makes you happy and if getting this job does it, than go for it.

From reading the last few lines of your post, I think you know what the right thing to do is. If I were in your shoes, I would take the new job. You need to worry about yourself and your family, and what your current job is doing to you is not fair. They are not compensating you for the hard work that you're doing.

If your current boss were in your shoes, he/she wouldn't care whether or not he/she were leaving the company "high and dry". This is a situation where you need to think about yourself and put yourself/family first.

Take the job! Like you said, it may be a "once in a lifetime opportunity".

You hate the position it's turned into.

You will make more $$$$$.

First, I think you want it, plain and simple.

You have to remember that you must be #1 - the anxiousness you feel right now leaving them "high and dry" will be gone once you are at the new job and coming home at 5 pm everyday!

You can't worry about your old job, you need to do what is best for you. That said I say go for it, you deserve it. Just make sure you give your job notice.

It sounds like an awesome opportunity for you!
If you give a 2 week notice, that gives them time to get someone in, you can train, and then off you go!

I understand company loyalty. I felt bad going on interviews- and then I got laid off In the end, the company does what is best for them- just like you should.

take the job and do whats good for you! if they didn't need you anymore, you better beleiee they wouldnt be thinking about you and where it would leave you

Like everyone else, I think you should take the new job. There is no downside.
You current employer will figure it out, it's not your problem.
