Im in NH and we celebrate Halloween on the 30th and can only TOT from 5 to 7 pm. Its a different world up here LOL
When I lived in the mid-west the county ordinance was 6-8pm in most towns. And if the porch light was on, you knew not to go to that house…either they ran out of candy or they weren't giving any out.
I loved the set time and the porch light idea. You knew when and where to go. The nice thing was... everyone followed the rules. No one ever came after 8pm.
I think the rest of the country does it this way. I prefer it, I hate the day time trick or treating they do around here. To me it's not fun if it's not dark out. I thought it was bizzarre when we first moved to LI. Also, hardly anyone seems to come around once it gets dark. I guess it's safer but definitely not as much fun!

So rigid, I would hate that. I like that there aren't any rules and we can enjoy the holiday and TOTing on our own schedule.

Re: What time do kids trick or treat on weekends?
Since my dd is only 3, we'll probably head out in the late afternoon, while there's still some sun left, both for safety and so it's a little warmer out. But I think early afternoon is too early. I'm sure many people wouldn't even be home early in the day to hand out candy.

What time do kids trick or treat on weekends?
We plan on going out from about 4:30-5:30 and then we are having friends back at our house for a party- everyone brings their kids and a dish and stays till around 8.

I don't like the TOTing during the day thing. I wish it was like other places between certain hours closer towards dusk.
This year we are heading to our friends who live in South Jersey and they start around 5 and on. So I'm excited that my kids will get to experience it when its dark out.
