what part of LI is predicted to get hit the worst so far?
Nassau, Suffolk, Montaulk area, South Shore, kwim?
Or is it more of the boros?

BREAKING NEWS - from the National Hurricane Center shows that HURRICANE IRENE's center tracking across Long Island from West Babylon to East Setauket (prior reports had the eye towards Queens)

This confuses me a bit. WB is more South Shore but East Setauket is North Shore. Does that mean the eye of teh storm will be covering all of LI in b/w these areas?

Anyone north of 25 or south of sunrise needs to "consider evacuating"

Officials have announced that given recent eastward changes in the storm, they have decided to evacuate Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
That is from their twitter account 4 min ago.

Since the hurricane is moving north up the coast, it's telling you the diagonal path (from South Shore to North Shore) that the hurricane will take as it moves across our area.

I'm looking at a map of the projected path and it shows the storm cutting directly right through the center of LI, slightly East of the Nassau/Suffolk border.
But I would imagine those living closest to any water would be affected the worst.

honestly, I dont think it matters. This storm is SO big! Its HUGE. (430 miles I think) We're all going to get it bad IMO.

exactly... it doesnt really matter how strong it is anymore either... every coastal area is going to get slammed because of storm surge and high tide...

yes, unless you live in the outer bands, you are getting it worse.
the difference will be if you live close enough to the water on either shore to be affected by the storm surges.
they are contemplating areas of MANHATTAN that are close to the water like Battery Park City.
this storm is big, it's ugly, and it's coming at high tide.

I left the YMCA this morning in Bay Shore and they were discussing about making it a Red Cross location. I have to say most people i have encountered today (with 2 exceotions , cuz ;)
are not giving this a second thought....

On the 11am map at the http://www.weather.com/weather/hurricanecentral/tracker site, the track is less than half a mile from my house....
