It's hard during the winter. We take dd to mommy and me classes in the mornings. Other than that just going out to eat, museums, holiday train show at the botanical garden which is now over, childrens plays, plans with friends and their kids

DS loves going to the library, so we're there a lot this time of year.On those rare nice, above freezing days, we are outside. Suffolk County Farm out in Yaphank is free, so we are there a lot (not when it's in the 20's or 30's but we like being outdoors, so any break in the frigid weather). Michael's and Home Depot often has cute classes on the weekends to come in and make something.

Re: What do you do on the weekends ?

the winter is hard - Saturdays we have hockey practice in the early AM, but the rest of the weekend is free.
We usually have company Saturday or Sunday at some point, or a family party or something happening .......
We take them to the park to run around and get the fresh air even when it's cold -
My older son (5) is the hockey player so he likes to practice skating at the roller or ice rink - we do play dates too .........
in between running errands, cleaning, laundry etc etc. -

This weekend they saw more video games than I'd care to admit b/c we didn't really make plans and the weather was crappy.

I avoid those indoor play places unless there's a birthday party b/c they're just a germ fest

I totally agree: We've stopped children's museums/play places because of all the colds EVERY SINGLE VISIT.

We started going to museums, even small art museums with one exhibit. We make a day & drive out of it (most are a drive away).

Hudson river museum had a peacock exhibit. It had a very nice program for kids where they got to paint peacocks in a craft room.

Nassau county museum of art also has programs.

We've even gone to CT for train shows & farm museums.

Re: What do you do on the weekends ?

DH and I were just talking about this bc we feel the same way. We do some family stuff, get together with friends or family, maybe go out to dinner, but at the end of the day I feel like we really didn't do anything.
Birthday parties have been quiet and like you said... everyone is sick. We've cancelled on plans over the winter break bc the boys had the flu and then when they got better other kids were sick.

Looking forward to going away next month then warmer weather. Sooo much more to do when it's warm out. Before I know it baseball and soccer starts so I may be missing the quiet days. LOL!

I signed Jude up for swimming lessons at Safe-T-Swim.

Turns out, HE FARKING LOVES IT. Chat Icon

He didn't even cry when the instructor he has NEVER met before, came and took him from me and went right in the pool.

Then, he giggled the entire time. We go every Saturday.

He threw a fit when it was over. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What do you do on the weekends ?

I have a 5yo and a 2yo.

Saturdays DS has 2 cooking classes in the morning, and my DD has a My Gym class.

Sundays my DS has swimming lessons. We signed our DD for lessons starting the next session.

Between school, sports and activities, my son is busy 7 days a week. He hasn't been to many birthday parties yet this year.

Looking at our upcoming events, we plan to go to the movies, mini golf, and sky zone.

We have so much running around to do on the weekends, and we tack on our errands after the kids stuff is done. I feel like we are always busy, always checking the calendar. I love the days when my kids can just relax and play at home.

My DD has Irish Step class on Saturday mornings. Aside from that DH and I usually just hang out with the kids, go out to eat at least once with them, and just relax. We also work on any house projects that we have going on, right now we're trying to finish up the kitchen reno so that takes up some of the time on the weekend.

I actually like having my weekends free, I hate when there is too much going on. It's nice to have our weekends to ourselves and go at our own pace.

We usually do nothing lol. Dh is home so we get stuff done around the house. I hate it.
Thsi weekend b/c we had the extra day off we tried to go bowling. Well so did everyone else in ct and there was a 2 hr wait so we left and went to children's museum. Then we went out to dinner. The rest of the weekend we were in.
I actually didn't mind it. We are in ct and all our family is on LI so we travel a bunch especially from sept- dec it's almost every other weekend. It's issane.

I want to do more though. So bowling, mini golf, aquariums etc. things that don't take all day and are cheaper.

What do you do on the weekends ?

crafts! Things that fly, float or have feathers. She's a regular at Michaels with me.

Now tho she's older so we do Girl Scout stuff on weekends. planning, going, or reviewing. More crafts and painting. We go outside and play or take her to a park (or indoor area). Ironically the McDonald's near me is *THE* indoor place for the moms around us. A lot of our restaurants have outdoor play areas and seating. We have more good days than not. AJ is a true NYker tho.. she'll out in a Tshirt only in 60 degree temps while other kids are bundled. Then she'll stay out there in 50s with a sweater when most parents have their children inside. Only when it gets yucky, icy, dirty or under 40 will she not go out there. So we go to a place, sit and have a snack while she makes new friends.

We don't care about germs. Germs make us stronger. She doesn't get sick like that. We don't do the flu shot and we do have cedar fever here but somehow she misses both. She has her standard allergies but what kid isn't sneezing and having a runny nose? Seems the harder she runs the clearer she gets tho!

She goes to Auntie's and they go to the indoor pizza play areas, tons of sick yucky kids but she loves it. Like I said she's yet to get sick now that she's older. I think younger she was still building her immunities. Now she's fairly drilled in washing hands, don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth in those places.

plus late night movie nights at my buddy's house with her son who's two years older than AJ. We stay until the host and AJ both pass out! LOL

We go to Shine Dance in Setauket. Technically though, it's an outside teacher that comes in and she just uses their studios. The teacher is from An Rince Mor Irish Dance Studio in Smithtown, I believe you can take lessons there as well. The instructor is AMAZING, she was the lead dancer in Riverdance for years and years.

My DD loves it!!! She Irish Steps all around the house. LOL I don't believe there are any boys in her class right now BUT I'm 99% sure the class is open to anyone. She's in the beginner class, I think it's ages 5-8. You should look into, I've been SO happy with the class/teacher.

Re: What do you do on the weekends ?

Thanks for the info!! Sorry OP about the hijack!!!

I have heard great things about that school who is based out of Smithtown but yes they use a few studios in different towns.

Oh I'm glad I know someone who used them and loved them.

It's funny, when we went to Irish Heritage Day at CitiField they had a bunch of Irish Step Dancers come out on the field and perform. The girls - one by one, gorgeous and smiling. I was like wow!! And here comes this tall but really skinny adorable boy, in the middle, with freckles, dancing away. He was surrounded by all the beautiful girls. At the end, they were each fighting over who got to exit holding his hand. I thought, that kids a flipping genius.

So, naturally, my father, brother, and Julian's daddy allllllll said SIGN HIM UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Chat Icon

For me, it's about the Irish Heritage Chat Icon

My dad said that's why he took chorus. Chat Icon

Re: What do you do on the weekends ?

Honestly, nothing especially in the winter months.

I become a big germphobe this time of year since having kids.

I just can't afford to have sick kids because of an outing outside to a play place or friends house. My sick time is limited with work.

When we do go somewhere - its usually a friends house. Even at that point I make sure that none of the kids we will be visiting are sick or have been sick in the days leading up to our visit.

Again, it may be extreme but when you are a FTWM and only have a certain amount of days you can take off, you have to be cautious.

Re: What do you do on the weekends ?

Sounds like we are all in the same boat!

I need to be better about going outside on the warmer days!

We don't go out to dinner a lot because to spend $ when i frankly don't enjoy myself seems silly. my 21 month old is a nightmare at dinner time now! Soon it will be better though!

Will try the movies with my big kids though that would be good...even bowling

Thanks!

Nothing. We all just got over being sick multiple times, I need a break from being sick. We got sick from the library, museum, ikea...everywhere. We used up so many sick days that it ate into vacation days and I lost lots of overtime $$ so we just can't afford getting sick right now.

What do you do on the weekends ?

Some weekends we are really busy and some weekends we stay home the whole time. This past weekend was super busy, my grandfather's 80th birthday party on Saturday, a birthday party on Sunday morning, dinner at my inlaws Sunday night, Monday Once Upon A Treetop. This coming weekend DH & I got a sitter and are going out to dinner on Friday night but Sat. & Sun. are wide open. As i get further along in this twin pregnancy (30 weeks 1 day), I much prefer to be home relaxing but I know that is not always fair to the boys.

We haven't been doing much either and add us to the list of those that have been sick. DD on and off since October and we overlapped in December and I got slammed again in early January.

I take her to Mommy and Me but we haven't been since early December. I feel bad because she's getting older and stir crazy but it's so hard in the winter. I can't deal with getting sick again and DH and I are exhausted by the time the weekend rolls around between work, Dd, etc., we really just want to relax. So looking forward to the warmer weather.

What do you do on the weekends ?

Dd is little-only 6 months. But is this the new norm? Growing up I just did things with my family on the weekends..hang out at home, ran errands, cleaned. If we happened to have a bday party my parents would drop me off-but they certainly didn't spend their weekends trying to entertain me.
