What do you do on the weekends ?
DH and I try to go out at least one Friday a month. Maybe to dinner, a movie, or for a drink. We are lucky to have my mom close by and she is always happy to have the kids. Now for the winter the kids both have basketball on Saturday mornings and DD has indoor lacrosse Sunday mornings. Otherwise I check out mommypoppins.com for ideas. I'll try to get passes from the library for museums. We may also do movies, ice skating, or bowling. We're trying to do one outing a weekend (which can get expensive, so we're trying to be mindful) and one day at home to just catch up on chores.

Activities for DS - swim, sport, karate. After, maybe a friends house or hang out with my sister. I feel like every weekend since the holidays has been something going on.
For the most part in the winter I like to chill at home when I can, have some drinks at night with DH. I'm like a bear in the winter.

What do you do on the weekends ?
We really hang out at home a lot during the winter. Older dc have basketball and flag football-little ones will sometimes tag along or one of us will stay home with them, particularly for football because it is usually freezing outside. Usually we go out to lunch afterwards. Sometimes take older dc to the movies. I can't stand the crowds at museums and other kid-oriented places on weekends. So we usually hang out a lot at home in the winter.

I have a 5yo and a 2yo.
Saturdays DS has 2 cooking classes in the morning, and my DD has a My Gym class.
Sundays my DS has swimming lessons. We signed our DD for lessons starting the next session.
Between school, sports and activities, my son is busy 7 days a week. He hasn't been to many birthday parties yet this year.
Looking at our upcoming events, we plan to go to the movies, mini golf, and sky zone.
We have so much running around to do on the weekends, and we tack on our errands after the kids stuff is done. I feel like we are always busy, always checking the calendar. I love the days when my kids can just relax and play at home.
May I ask where you take a cooking class? My son would love that!

My girls have dance on Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings my oldest has swimming. Besides that I agree it feels like there isn't much to do. We have done the library a few times. With the flu vaccine not working so well this year I've been avoiding the kiddie places.
On the weekends when we are stuck indoors I just try to make it fun.
I'll pull out playdough
Paints
I took the sand and water table inside
Bake with the girls
Make tents
Dance parties

My older DS has basketball on Saturdays and indoor soccer on Sundays. My younger one is along for the ride. aside from that we usually have a bday party every/every other weekend. On the weekends we have nothing planned, we either hang at home, I try to have friends over or go to a friends house with the kids, go out to eat as a family, play in the yard when it's not freezing.

Dd is little-only 6 months. But is this the new norm? Growing up I just did things with my family on the weekends..hang out at home, ran errands, cleaned. If we happened to have a bday party my parents would drop me off-but they certainly didn't spend their weekends trying to entertain me.
For me it's not that I must entertain my son.
I work full time, so I don't get as much time with him as I want. So on the weekends, I want to do fun things as a family since that's really the only time I have with him.

For me, I get stir crazy. I can't be in the house for two full days. I need yo get out, even if it's just to sports practice or run errands or grab lunch.

That's why I had kids.
I love spending time with my DS - experiencing new things with him (he is only 15 mo), seeing the world through his eyes. DH and I work FT so its important to us to do things as a family on the weekends.
We certainly do things as a couple, but I would think it weird if I didn't focus on my son over the weekend.

May I ask where you take a cooking class? My son would love that!
Our town's youth center offers classes on the weekends. But I know there are a few other places that offer cooking classes, like Bubble in Babylon.
Check out this list...it's for adults and kids.

I don't think it's a "new" thing. I think its just how different families do things.
Growing up my parents took us to museums, shows, movies, the park, the zoo, fairs, etc. on the weekend.
Sometimes we relaxed at home and sometimes we ran errands... but twice a month or so we had fun family outings.
My best childhood memories are from those times!

What do you do on the weekends ?
We have been pretty busy with parties and commitments but it's starting to slow down.
We get together with friends, go into the city, and do indoor play places occasionally (at some point my sanity is worth the risk of sickness).

i think our society changed from being parent-focused to child-focused. Kids used to fit into their parents lives now we often revolve our days around the kids (entertaining them and keeping them enriched).
My parents took us on trips and boring cultural events where we just hung out with other kids. They socialized every weekend with other families at our house or theirs. We didnt do a lot of extracurricular stuff which i wish we did. My sister and i watched a lot of tv played outside with our friends and helped clean the house!
