What % did you put down on your first home?
we did apoll like this, but it was $ amount. I would like to know the % first time homebuyers have been putting down!

we put down 25%
ETA: we closed July 2006 and paid closing costs separately as well.

my first home was on my own, put down 8%. (OCT 2003)
our first home together we put down 20% (renting out my place now.) (AUG 2005)

We put down 20%...plus closing costs.
ETA: we closed in June 2006...and saved ~35% ($145k) in 16 months.

First home 20%- 30K for a 150,000 home Dec 1998.
First home together about 55%- 265K for a 519K home October 2005. 105K within first 4 months for renovations.

I think it would be more helpful if you also told us when you paid for your house. There is a huge difference between 20% 7 years ago and 20% now.

eta: and it was for your first home, whether its a condo, co-op, or house.
im just tryign to see how much cash (besides making $$ from sale of another property) people came up with. I keep saving and saving and it seems impossible!

We did 10% and it took almost 2 years to save that. Then anohter $10k for closing. After practically emptying our bank account we were freakin out!

bought last year house was 403 we put down 50K and paid closing costs seperatley
mortgage is about 2500

yea, we are going to be emptying our bank account- thats what scares me the most!! but whatever we get as wedding gifts is goign back in, untouched. hopefully!

yea, we are going to be emptying our bank account- thats what scares me the most!! but whatever we get as wedding gifts is goign back in, untouched. hopefully!
That is really such a great position to be in - IMO. We bought our house 4 months before we got married. Put 12% down (60K) paid closing costs seperately. When we got married we got a huge chunk of $$ that we were able to put into our savings account to build it back up!

THe good news about letting all of this money go out of your acct is that eventually you will bring it back up.
We have the house almost 4 years and have been able to save. Our bank acct is fine.
It helps that our incomes have gone up too.

I just want to add that even though we were able to save again, you can never have enough money. I wish I had more money just to do things to the house. And, no matter how great the house may seem, there will always be something you want to do to it.
