We registered for the Maclaren Sport Quest deluxe stroller and the Britax Marathon 70 convertible car seat.
We purchased the Peg Perego Primo Viggio car seat and Peg Perego Pliko 3 stroller ourselves as the travel system.

The Chicco Cortina Travel System. It had really good reviews on all of the sites I checked. I liked that the stroller was lightweight and easy for me to open and close by myself. The carseat is on the heavy side but hopefully I'll develop Mommy muscles 
We are buying a lot of the baby's things ourselves so I didn't want to get too crazy with the stroller cost. I did like the City Mini but with all of the extra pieces I'd need for it (like a tray, cupholder), it was just too expensive. I did love that it was lightweight and it had a great sunshade. I plan on doing a lot of walking so that would have been nice but since you can't actually jog with it I didn't find it that much more appealing than the Chicco Cortina. If it were a true jogger we may have gone for it.
We do plan on having more than 1 child and if they happen to be close in age we may need a double stroller in the future, so that was another reason I didn't want to overspend. I know a lot of Moms who got an expensive stroller for #1 and then they ended up buying a double stroller.
I hope we like it. It's hard to know until you actually start using it.

Carseat- Chicco Keyfit 30
Stroller- City Mini (we got this used) and got the Chicco adaptor

One interesting thing that Tarabelle pointed out on another thread that I read the other day (on the parenting board)...
A lot of people register for their convertable car seats when they are pregnant and people buy them off of their registry.
Most convertable car seats have an expiration date of 6 years, but yet they go up to 65lbs or so and you can use them for many years.
If someone buys yours off of your registry, it could be 6 months old already at the store...then you wait another year to use it until the baby is big/old enough...you could lose up to a year and a half on the expiration date of the carseat! That's a lot of if you were hoping to use it until your child is about 5 (and in a booster seat) or if you were planning on using it for multiple children.
Just something to think about!

This is the combo I was considering. The Chicco got very good reviews with CR but the Safety 1st Designer 22 came in a close 2nd with a lower price - anyone getting that one?
