Re: What can you tell me about Levittown?

I rent a home in Levittown and my lanlord has not kept up with the house and the isolation stinks, its a POS. My son goes to East Broadway elementary school and he loves it. It is a great school and I really like my neighbors.

Re: What can you tell me about Levittown?

We just bought in Levittown in November of last year. We love it..my DH grew up there right by the library and went to Division, his parents still live there. Its a family oriented community, we have an expanded cape and so much room and a huge backyard. I would totally recommend it. I'm hoping to get all of my friends to move there. We had a termite inspection and it was clean..now i'm a little worried reading these posts but hey..I guess we will take it as it comes!!

FWIW, my parents are in their house for 35 years and never had a termite problem.

Re: What can you tell me about Levittown?

I haven't lived in Levittown since 1995 but I did grow up there, in the Island Trees school district by the East Village Green.

I can tell you that when you want to raise children, it's wonderful to have so many families around. We were never short on kids to play hide and go seek, ringalevio, kick the can.

The greens are also convenient. With the small yards, we didn't know anyone who had a pool. But we didn't need one - we just got the pool pass and went down the block to the green.

We also had a garage that we turned into part of the house later, and dormered to finsh off the second floor and add a bathroom. There are a lot of options for expanding and all you have to do is look at your neighbor's houses for inspiration.

I would also like to know where the run-down areas are? The last time I drove through Hempstead Turnpike, there were more business lots for rent than I remember, and more garbage on the sides of the road. But I see that as a seasonal thing.

Brand New Fridays which will be like 3 minutes from our house.

Scott, where are they putting in a Fridays? I like keeping up on Levittown news and telling my parents. They have such nostalgia for the old neighborhood. Chat Icon

Re: What can you tell me about Levittown?

I lived in Levittown for 25 years of my life before I got married. I can honestly say I enjoyed growing up there. My parents just sold their house in August 07 after 26 years of living there. We were in the Salk/MacArthur section & in the "S" section of Levittown.

We loved the sense of family throughout the neighborhood. We did not have a basement in our house but did not need one. When my parents bought the house, it was already dormered on top & expanded in the back where the "living" use to end. We had a full walk in attic where we stored everything. My parents never had a termite problem in the 26 year either & when they sold the house, it was given a clean bill.

Being in walking distance to the stores, pools & even the Elementary (Gardiners Ave), Middle & HS (Salk & MacArthur) was the best. My mom was a teacher in the elementary school up in this past summer & she loved it.

When DH & I bought our house in 2005, we bought in Wantagh but the Levittown School District. DH didn't want to look in Levittown just bc the Levitt houses were not the style we wanted. I am so glad I bought into the same schools with exception of the Elementary (our kids will go to E. Broadway) bc I know that it is a fantastic district.

In regards to Taxes, yes Levittown taxes are high but tell me where in Nassau county they are not. We are in Wantagh, only 2 miles from my old house & our taxes are about $1500 more then my parents were.

Re: What can you tell me about Levittown?

I've lived in levittown my whole life (well we rented an apt in n bellmore for a year and a half when we got married).

My parents bought in Levittown before I was born (they paid 28,000.00). They still live in Levittown (By Island Trees Jr High in the same house). I had THE best childhood! I lived in a cape and when I was about 7 my parents extended it. They put in a dinning room and a tv room. Their taxes are lower then mine because they are in Island Trees. The neighborhood is awesome! For my moms 40th birthday all the woman on their block and the ajoining block got together and had a birthday party at someones house. At that birthday party the decided they should do this everymonth for everyones birthday. My mom turns 60 this year. They have been doing this every month for the last 20 years. They send around an envelope and everyone chips in 5.00 that buys a cake and a gift. And someone says they will have it at their house. Now the same night the guys get together and play poker at another house.

When we got married I knew I wanted to move to Levittown. My DH grew up in bethpage with a basement. He really wanted one. I never had one and knew I wouldn't miss it. When we bought our house he was amazed at how much storage we had.

I bought a house that was extended the same as my parents house. With a dining room and den.

Our washer and dryer is in a closet.

I am zoned for Division Ave. Wisdom Lane (JR high) and Abbey Lane (elem)

Anyone who says there is a "run down" area of Levittown has probably NEVER stepped foot in Levittown and maybe heard it from someone else.

remember that some of them don't have basements so you have to worry about other issues. fm what issue. friends ran into this problem and luckily backed out of the house. the inspector did not see the problem.

What issues?

ALSO as well as the houses that Charon mentioned there are some houses by the Island Trees elem schools that have basements!

Re: What can you tell me about Levittown?

We considered Levittown, but decided that the lot sizes were too small and taxes were too high, so we went to Suffolk.
I have never heard anything bad about it, though? What bad things are said about Levittown?
