Anyone who says there is a "run down" area of Levittown has probably NEVER stepped foot in Levittown and maybe heard it from someone else.
i agree with you on this... people just assume that its run down... IMO its all nice! i love living in L- Town!!

The fridays will be where Damons used to be in the old navy shopping center.
I forgot to mention the free pools that are all over levittown. We have a free pool 4 blocks from our house.
you said you lived near the library?? i probably am your neighbor! i live right there too!!

Someone was talking to Danielle a few weeks ago and the woman started talking about the schools in levittown, that they were not that good, and then talking about the area in levittown also. That really annoyed Danielle because She works in a School in Levittown and she knows the schools are really good in Levittown. We also live in Levittown and know that the area is a really good area to live in. This person is a close friend of the family and she really insulted Danielle, stating false information about something she knows nothing about. She kept saying her husband said it......
This also really annoyed me. They are interested in buying a house and she had asked me to send her houses when I saw something she would be interested in, but after she said this I stopped looking for her. The reason she had brought the whole thing up was because I sent her some inexpensive under $350k homes in levittown and she showed her husband. I am glad they dont want to live here....that is better for us.

i find it soo annoying when people bad mouth this town... there is nothing wrong with it!! the people , schools!

I grew up in Levitotwn, went to Division avenue high school and after moving away I realize how great this town was to live in. The neighborhood itself is kept very presentable and for the most part there are no run-down areas i can think of. I always felt safe walking around, particulary at night. It is very family oriented and every store you will ever need is within a 15 minute drive. If i were staying on LI to have children, I would absolutely want to raise my children in this town. Levittown is WAY underrated, its a surburban gem that many people dont realize.

My cousin and her DH live in Levittown and they love their house and the neighborhood. They both grew up in Levittown and then bought a house there so that must say something.
My DH loves when we go to visit them since thay have the best deli, Division Ave. Deli, by their house. He has to get a chicken cutlet classic everytime he visits.  I think he is friends with the sandwich on My Space

Scott, thanks for sending me those links!I really like that first house you sent me. I am hoping we can look at some this weekend. My FIL is visiting and he's very knowledgable in housing construction/renovation & buying so we want his input while he's here. Thanks again for the input and links!

Its a nice area but the damn taxes are insane, better off looking in massapequa houses may be a little higher but the taxes arent high...

The taxes may be high here but the star program discount is high also.
We get $1396 off our taxes...MAssapequa is a lot less.
Island Trees is $1080 I think
All of Long Island has high taxes so for what I pay for taxes it isnt bad compared to other towns....Plus I have a decent sized property with a Large back yard.
And
Some of our bills are a lot less than other towns - like our water bill - I pay $13 for water in the non sprinkler months and $60 fo water when we use our sprinklers. I think it is a 2 month period.
Bellmore.....Water is over $100....and that is before the sprinklers.....that is what my inlaws pay.

Ahh, ok. I'm from Bethpage originally & I thought it was nice & I'm not too familiar with the other areas besides Hicksville & Levittown but they all seemed good to me. Just middle of the road, relatively safe, family areas.

I grew up in Levittown as well and my little sister still attends school in the district. My parents have had five children pass through the district with no problems and each child has been involved in various clubs and sports. The community itself has soccer and baseball leagues and a Saturday dance program. You also get use of the nine pools in Levittown for "free" over the summer (included in taxes)
As for the houses, they vary. Some people have done a lot of renovating, while other people have not.
My street growing up always reminds me of what suburbia should be like. Kids playing outside. Parents taking kids on bike rides. . . cute family stuff.
As for good and bad areas, typically division is considered the "bad area" I went to MacArthur and subbed in Division. I would definitely not consider the Division side bad. I think this misnomer has to do largely with their emphasis on sports. Now, however, divisionhas a new administration and there have been a lot of changes in the school placing emphasis on academics first and foremost.
