Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

When we told our in-laws we gave them a picture frame that said I love grandma and I love grandpa And his mom thought it was for a pet we got??????? I was so dissapointed. And his dad just sat there. His sister kept jumping around the room with excitment but nothing from his parents. And they never really say much about it. My mom and dad talk about it all the time. About what they want to buy and do with the baby and all. But his parents say nothing. Is it just me?? This is there first grandchild. I just expected more.

My MIL was THRILLED to say the least. Her "baby" was having a baby, and when she found out it was a boy...OMG she went nuts. A boy in her culture is like the end all be all. The name gets carried on, its a big deal. She has been RIDICULOUS with her gifts and for him (the baby) he is already spoiled. Maybe they just need time for it to sink in. Chat Icon

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

DH says my inlaws are excited, but with them you can never tell. They are soooooooooooooooooo laid back and do not show much emotion.

I have just grown to accept them the way they are.

Yes - surprisingly they were. dave's mom's famous words (from a woman who NEVER EVER curses) was, 'SON OF A B I T C H'....because she was so surprised.

we'll see how that goes....

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

Yeah I guess I just thought they would have been more excited about it. But she don't show any emotion about it at all really. His dad now is excited but his mom still nothing.

Yea, my MIL started crying when we handed her the sono pic. She's a single mom and only has DH as a child so this is a huge deal.

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

Don’t feel bad everyone reacts and shows their feeling in a different way, especially if they are on the older side.

MIL is extremely happy for us but when we told her the news, first she was confused, and when she finally got it she didn’t look as excited as I expected and told us that we should wait until end of first trimester before telling a lot of people. I knew she really wanted us to give her more grandchildren so I also realized that she was nervous because we have had close family and friends that have experienced early miscarriages.

Now that I’m 18 weeks she is so happy and excited and has been great. She just left to Florida for the rest of the Winter and kept telling us to make sure to send her pictures and reports of my progress

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

My IL's were very excited. They knew what I was going through to get preg. which was a lot. My MIL speaks broken english(pretty well actually), and I don't speak italian. My Dh told me what to say in Italian when his mother answered the phone and she was yelling with happiness through the phone. I still don't really have a clue what I even said Chat Icon

My in-laws couldn't have been happier for us. They new we had a mc a few years ago and were trying. I have the best in-laws though. They always try to go out of there way for us. Even though we never take anything from them they constantly ask us what we need and if they can do anything for us.

They are excited now but when we first told them the news they were both very reserved about it. I had a miscarriage over the summer and I know that they were both nervous and didn't want us to get our hopes up but it did upset me.

There not old at all. His mom is only 48. She even said to me Oh I thought you were going to wait. Like it was a bad thing we got pregnant.

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

My in-laws were so excited. I MIL has a melon sized fibroid in her uterus and is having a full hysterectomy on Feb. 3rd so when DH and I gave them the sonogram all wrapped up for christmas my MIL goes " Well that's not a fibroid!" Chat Icon My FIL starting crying, he was so excited! He was just joking around the week before saying they were going to have to adopt grandchildren! They are absolutely thrilled, this is their first granchild. They ask us after every OB appointment how things are going. They are the nicest people.

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

We gave my FIL a photo frame that said "Grandpa makes everything fun", he understood that it meant but the rest of the family took a few minutes to understand what it meant. He jumped up and hugged and kissed us a few times, it was sweet.

We gave my MIL a "grandma's brag book" when she opened it she burst into tears, flew across the room and hugged me!

It was a sweet response from both. My MIL calls to ask how her "grandbaby" is doing. Only 222 more daysChat Icon

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

My MIL was thrilled. It is her 9th grandchild but she was still very exciting. There hasn't been a baby in the family in a little while so all of my ILs were excited (SILs and BILs were too).

Re: Were your In-laws excited when you told them?

My IL's were as excited as they could be. I did not expect nearly the reaction I got from my family so the simple smiles and hugs as oppossed to screaming and jumping and crying were totally expected. They are/will be in Florida for half my pg so it's been nice! Chat Icon
