Weight loss-healthy weight
Do you think if you are of a healthy weight and you take care of yourself, exersize, eat right..etc..that you have a better chance of conceiving whether it be natural or with help?
Do you think that it impacts your fertility?

Re: Weight loss-healthy weight
Weight can most definately affect your fertility. However, with that said, there are are thin/in shape women that have IF issues, and on the other side there are overweight woman who never have IF issues and get pregnant easily.
I always say it's in your best interest to keep a healthy lifestyle when TTC. But I really don't think there is a clear cut answer to this question.

not at all, look at all the babies born to drug addict mothers.
I think it's important for our own well being but I don't think it hugely impacts conception

Re: Weight loss-healthy weight
I don't know if there's data to back this up - there probably is somewhere.
I can say from experience that we did four IUIs. Boosh is not that tall, and overweight. From the time we did the first IUI, to the third IUI, her weight gradually went up - due to the medication, and emotional stress. Tracking her response to the medication those three times, you can see she responded to medication later in the cycle, and produced less follies as she gained weight. The first and third IUI resulted in miscarriage - not really sure if weight played a factor there
After the third IUI, which resulted in miscarriage, we took a six month break and she lost 20 lbs.
When we did the fourth one, she responded better and faster than she ever had, and the rest of the process played itself out.

Re: Weight loss-healthy weight
I think overall your body responds better and handles EVERYTHING (stress, change, etc) better when you're at a healthy weight and you take care of your body .........
I can tell you gaining weight has absolutely changed my fertility - I spend my entire life ovulating completely normally and regularly at a healthy weight and lifestyle . - Once I graduated college and starting sitting on my tush in the office all day, I gained almost 30 lbs in the past 7 years ........My thyroid (already a bit off) got worse, my allergies got worse, I no longer ovulate on my own (PCOS) and I'm insuline resistant .......- I may very well have had been prone to the PCOS and the insulin issue before - but my weight gain has brought them to the forefront .........

Re: Weight loss-healthy weight
Honestly? Yes I do.
When I had been active in post-operative gastric bypass support groups for a couple of years, women of child-bearing years had always been told to double up on birth control because after a big weight loss, so many women become much more fertile and their cycles CAN regulate or become more predictable. It was not healthy for the GB patients to continue to lose weight while they would have to nourish a child. The doctors requested waiting at least a year to 18 months before thinking about TTC.
As for underweight women, I do believe that a poor diet or lack thereof can also impact a cycle.
Sure you will have your occasional skinny drug addict who will get PG or a morbidly obese person as well, but I personally believe that the closer a person is to a healthy weight, the easier it COULD be. It is not a universal though.

Re: Weight loss-healthy weight
I think it can, but is not necessarily the case. While I think being at a healthy weight and in shape is optimal for everything - I am not overweight and Exercise pretty regularly, yet still do not ovulate on my own. Sure I could stand to lose maybe 5 pounds or so, but this is not something that would affect my fertility. Unfortunately for me, and for some others, this was just something I was born with.

Re: Weight loss-healthy weight
I'll tell you this - I was about 20lbs lighter when I conceived Alex as compared to when I started this journey. And I'm sure that had some kind of effect on my thyroid levels as well. So, I've made it my mission to get back to the shape I was in when I conceived her.
Not only that, it helps you stay focused and healthy, both mentally and physically, while you have to endure this tough ride. I console myself by knowing that, until I can have my baby, I CAN have my looks and appearance.

Being overweight can def. impact fertility. This is something that many doctors will tell you.
