This is definitely true.
In my case I had no m/s whatsoever so I gained 6lbs in the first trimester.

Re: weight gain
I gained 13 lbs in 13 weeks, but I've got two on board.
Honestly, I think you are fine. I've heard of women not gaining until their 2nd trimester and even losing in the 1st trimester if they are sick. You'll start gaining soon enough!

Re: weight gain
No not at all - everyone and every pregnancy is different. With DD #1 I lost 10 lbs the 1st trimester b.c I was constantly nauseated to the point that I wasn't eating very much. But in the end it all caught up to me and I gained a lot in the end (all water - but about 30lbs of it) which came right off once I delivered DD. So far with this one I haven't gained anything. My OB said for me - I could gain about 5lbs the 1st trimester and then 1 lb a week for the 2nd and 3rd trimester. Keep in mind I'm overweight to begin with so I would want to gain less than someone who is average weight.
Honestly I wouldn't give it a second thought your OB will tell you if they are worried. If they don't say anything than I wouldn't stress it.

Re: weight gain
I was in the 120s to start the pregnancy, and now at 18+ weeks am still down 5 lbs. from prepregnancy. I didn't have m/s where I was getting sick, but I didn't have much of an appetite the first tri. I still haven't gained anything the second tri.
My doctor wasn't concerned since the baby is measuring on schedule.

I gained 3 pounds by 10 weeks and my doctor told me it was too much! I don't think that there is a "normal".

You will learn everyone is different. Books are just a guide, so don't stress. I gained 4lbs in the first tri. It varies, person to person.

Re: weight gain
i wouldn't go "by the books" on this one. every woman is different. in my first pregnancy i lost 10 pounds from morning sickness - it took me until 20 weeks to gain that weight back, so it was only after that that i started actually putting on weight. in the end i gained an average amount of weight and my baby was perfectly healthy! it all evens out in the end

I gained the bulk of my weight in the first trimester. I'm 2 weeks away from having the baby and I've only gained 2lbs so far in my 3rd trimester. Total weight gain this pregnancy is 14lbs.

I never had M/S and only gained 18 pounds my entire pregnancy. My baby was almost 9 pounds and I was wearing my regular size 2 jeans 8 days after giving birth...as long as you are eating well...you will be one of the lucky one!!

Re: weight gain
Before I got pg I was 130 pounds. I lost some because of m/s, so at 12 weeks I was down to 124.5 pounds. At almost 17 weeks Im finally back up to 128 pounds. I lost weight my first trimester! Dont worry! Talk to the doc if you are concerned.

Re: weight gain
Don't stress - everyone is different. I have no m/s, but no appetite either - I finally gained 2 lbs at the end of the fisrt tri ........from week 16-21 I gained 5, and from 21-26 I gained another 5 .....I think by the time I started the 3rd tri I am up about 15 lbs total ..... So I basically gained 13-15 lbs in my 2nd tri !!!!

Re: weight gain
I gained nothing in the first trimester. And I am not so sure about gaining 8 lbs in the first trimester - that sounds way too high. I think it should only be 3 lbs or so.

Re: weight gain
Both pregnancies I didn't gain much in the 1st tri- I always had a huge gain in the middle of the second- like 9 pds or so in month.

I am 26 weeks and gained 10 pounds so far. I was also overweight to begin with so I am only supposed to gain 15-20 pounds for the entire pregnancy.

Re: weight gain
My doctor told me that in the first trimester you should only gain between 2 and 4 pounds. Every book I've read has said the same.
With that said, I've been sick my whole 1st tri, so I've actually lost weight. I'm 12 weeks today and I've lost 3lbs. in total. My doctor isnt concerned and said its normal as long as you gain at a steady rate throughout the rest of your pregnancy.
