Weekday birthday party

My DS 5th birthday is August 28th. We have a big family and a lot of friends with kids the same age that he is friends with. When I made the list we have around 35 kids. We usually do his party labor day weekend and family ends up coming back to the house. I'm trying to figure out a way to cut the cost and chaos a bit!

I was thinking of having family bbq labor day weekend and having a friends party on his birthday which is a Monday. Most of the mom's are teachers with the exception of 2 or 3. What does everyone think of weekday parties??

Re: Weekday birthday party

As a working mom it doesn't work for me (unless it's at night) but if most people are teachers like you say, then it would be ok

Weekday birthday party

Last year dd was in nursery school Tuesday and Thursday so I did her party on a Tuesday during a school break. It worked out well since a lot of the parents either were home or teachers. As long as it works for everyone really important to you I think it's fine. You can't please everyone regardless of what you do.

I personally don't like weekday parties bc I don't have dh to watch the sibling. Keep that in mind too. If the husband isn't around to watch the other kid you may get people wanting to come with siblings which would end up with even more kids.

I'm not a fan. With camp for the older set and hubby working... even SAHMs will have issues.

BUT if your closest friends can make it... why not?

This is why I'm not a fan of them either. I usually have to say no because I have 2 other kids and DH works late. But when you see the price is half what it is on a Saturday it is tempting!!!

Re: Weekday birthday party

I've had two of them, One during the day during summer break.
As long as you know your crowd. I knew all the moms I invited were SAHM or teachers or have flexible schedules. I also always invite siblings so that isn't an issue. We only got 1 no and that was because they were on vacation that week.
I love having something fun to do during the week when I'm home with the kids anyway. Weekend/family time is so precious and I'm happy to keep my weekends free.

I work so I would never. TBH, I'd give major eyeroll to an invite in the middle of a weekday but then again I don't know any families with SAHMs.

I think it depends on your crowd.. if you plan to have a lot of SAHM moms then I think its fine. I did one in my backyard for my younger DD when she turned 2-- I invited some of my gfs with kids her age (they happened to be either on maternity leave at the time or SAHMs) and some of the neighborhood kiddos who came with their nannys. A few people couldnt come bc they worked/and or lived too far for their nannys to bring them but for the most part it was great. It was also during spring break so a bit easier for some-- but we had a great turn out without it being overwhelming. To be honest what I liked most about it was that there werent a ton of adults since there was only one adult per kid max and usually we have both parents come when its on a weekend. I would and plan to most likely do it again next year when DD is in preschool.. either during a holiday week or even in the afternoon after school.

I would prefer it, but I'm currently a stay at home mom (and a teacher once this gig is up) with a husband who works different shifts 24/7 365.
Our weekends are always packed and on a rare occasion that hubby is home we like to do our own thing.
Our crowd consist mostly of teachers and other shift workers so we might even have a better turnout on a summer Monday vs a weekend, but it may be different for you.
Bottom line-know your crowd !

Weekday birthday party

During the summer I wouldn't mind. I'm a teacher and only have 1 child.

This. DS 1 has been invited to a couple of weekday parties now that he's in elementary school. Either DH takes him if he's off or I ask another parent.

I frowned upon it at first but, it is really a lot nicer than tying up the weekend. And my DH (and a lot of them in our area) work random schedules so many have the issue of not having someone to watch the siblings on weekends anyway....

My sister told me that with her DD's this seems to be more common with people having weekday parties. For me, I am a FTWM so it wouldn't work, but if you have mostly SAHM and teachers then I don't think it would be an issue.

Weekday birthday party

I would do what works for you and your family. I work and although I have a very flexible schedule I do not think that I would leave work to bring my son to a birthday party.

Do whatever works for you. If you know that there will be mostly SAHM and teachers then I would absolutely do it. My kids have gotten invited to tons of weekday bday parties this year and the kids had a great turn out for their parties!

The question is, what is late? Besides teachers most people work until 5 at least. So if a party started before then or at 5, someone needs to leave work early. It sux to have to tell you're child they can't go to a party bc their parents work and you don't have a nanny to bring them.

If it was at 7pm, I'd be fine. lol

However, my son is older now, so I wouldn't have an issue if another parent brought him.

But anything before 7 and he'd be out

This is true that is why its best to base it on your potential guests and what would work
for them

That's what I was saying too. 7pm or later and we are fine. I am not missing work for birthday parties.

Yeah I work until 530 pm and don't get home until 6 on a good day.
So anything before 630 would be too early

Not fan of them though I have had a friday night birthday party but I knew not everyone would be able to make it and honestly I am OK with that since the list is out of hand!

I work so weekday during the day sucks. I have a friend who has not even anything big (not at a place or anything) have parties during the week and during the day on school vacations, summers etc. To me that's crazy but mostly all their school friends have SAH parents so they can go.
