We started off SO excited last night... only to be SO disappointed this morning - Cupcake related!
Last night DH and I made Mike Wazowski cupcakes (from Monsters Inc) for DS birthday party at his daycare today. We baked them, I frosted them, DH worked with the fondant (he would kill me if I told anyone that) 
We are not bakers by any means, but if you look at the pictures, I think we did an AWESOME job! We were so excited to bring them in to his school today. I wrapped them up and left them on the counter overnight.
WELL, this morning, the icing melted and everything slid off the cupcakes!       The eyeballs fell off, the mouths rolled off. I could do nothing but laugh because it was my fault for not putting them in the fridge. I thought they would be fine.
So there was no way to salvage them. I had to run and get regular cupcakes from the supermarket. But you better believe I was showing ALL the teachers the picture of what the cupcakes looked like so they knew what I was planning on bringing in!
Lesson learned!

The cupcakes looked awesome!!!! I'm sorry they melted.
We had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. We were going to a family reunion and they were having a baking contest. We made this awesome cake with a swimming pool and everything in the middle. Well by the time we got to the picnic we opened the box to see the cake and all of the icing had melted off of it.
All we could do was laugh as well. What are you gonna do?

OK, if I am going to be honest... I ate one this morning!  Just because the frosting melted off doesn't mean the cupcake isn't going to taste good!!!

Thanks for resizing for me!  Yeah, I'm happy because we got to see them looking good last night. And, somehow 4 of them survived the night so we will let DS have them all to himself! (they are now in the fridge for the record! )
It was so strange... the 4 that survived were randomly scattered in the bunch of 24 cupcakes so it wasn't like one side of the room was warmer than the other. Go figure!

That's terrible!! They are ADORABLE!!!
I can't imagine why the icing slid off though....did you let them cool before you iced them? What kind of icing did you use? If you ever want to make them again, I have a great recipe I can give you that sits overnight without sliding!

Did you use regular store bought frosting (duncan hines, betty crocker)? If so there in lies the problem, its too thin. Next time go to AC Moore or Michaels, use the wilton icing, it has a much thicker consistency and wont "slide" off your cake
BTW they looked awesome!!

You got it... I was lazy. I was actually going to make my own frosting, but ended up buying the one in the supermarket. They did look so pathetic this morning. Just completely melted!
