was anyones car towed from the lie due to nemo?
Hi, just a brief background dh had to leave his car on the LIE at exit 61 on Friday night he got stuck, as did tons of others the LIE was a mess. We tried to go back and get the car on Saturday and Sunday and were not able to due to the road being closed and for emergency vehicles only.The state ended up towing dh car all the way to Huntington- why they took the car westbound when he was clearly headed eastbound I have no idea- and now in order to pick up the car we had to pay the tow place $515. I am trying to figure out how to get reimbursed for this, the car was driveable just stuck on the poorly plowed road. Has anyone else had something similar happen? I have calls into the state, but I am sure this is going to be a challenge to try and recoup the money.

If he was coming home from work then maybe his employer will help with the cost. Otherwise I'd just be happy that the car wasn't demolished.

That is a disgrace.
I want to vomit at the way this storm was handled.
Vomit.
It really makes me fear for a bigger emergency God forbid. We are doomed.

Sorry I don't see how you should be reimbursed. They had to tow your car in order to plow. Are they going to plow around your car?
Everyone & their mother said stay off the roads. If you had to drive (whether you we're required to be out or not), you are doing so at your own risk.

agreed. DH had to leave a car somewhere in Nesconset as well. He called a tow company to pick it up, but they were unable to find it. He then calld the police station there and they said they did not tow any cars, just "moved them to the side" so people could drive on it. He's currently looking for it now....

Totally agree.
I know they said to "stay off the roads" but unless they were going to REQUIRE your employer to close, then what are you supposed to do? Get fired? Businesses did not let people go home before the worst of it came down. I'm sure the people stuck weren't out joyriding, they were just trying to get home.

Totally agree.

Exactly!! I'm sure no one wanted to be out there and everyone wanted get home, unfortunately at the same time. And not everyone had a place to stop and stay along their commute as traffic and the weather got worse.

This is a little uncalled for. I am a NYC teacher and there is NO early dismissal in NYC public schools. We left at 3 and didn't make it home until 7. Many of my friends didn't make it home until almost 9 and one had to abandon their car. Is that their fault? NO. It's nice for people to say stay off the roads, but then there is something called reality and some of us had no choice.

call 631-775-2001. This was just on news 12 for the Person who can't find their car.
p.s. N.J. Closed their highways or maybe it was Boston. If your car got stuck, you got it towed AND a hefty fine along with your tow fees. Your car, your responsibility unfortunately.

That is a disgrace. I was feeling so bad for DD's teacher who had to drive in the thick of the storm home on friday as the school principal held out until 2pm to close the school...that storm came down so fast that even if people were "allowed" ( and in most cases it wasn't that people were sitting at their desks surfing the web - their bosses kept them at work) to leave a little early it was not early enough!!!

So let me get this straight.
I PAY you to do your job - that is, sand, salt and plow the road so it is safe. You don't do your job, causing my car to get stuck. So now I have to pay AGAIN.
Sounds like they got a good racket going on there...

Most alarming here is that they took your car from Holbrook to HUNTINGTON! Isn't that a total waste? Also, if it was on a tow truck, the poor driver had to drive all that extra way during a blizzard, putting himself in danger? What is the reasoning for how far they took your car???
In terms of having to pay, I can see them having you pay. We all knew a blizzard was coming as far back as Tuesday. I do think it was our responsibility to stay off the roads. The problem is, it usually isn't as bad as they hype it up to be..this happened to be FAR worse than they predicted. I am sorry you are dealing with this.

I can see why they towed it, it became a road hazard. It's not right that you have to pay, but if its a private tow company, they're not going to do it for free. It sucks all around.

No. Honestly. You can not just take a day. Or arrange to leave early. The majority of NYC teachers, or the ones in my school, live on LI. If we all took off what would happen to our kids? Also, if my principal let me leave early it would cause a ripple effect. Everybody would wantn to leave early. Obviously that would be a big problem.

In all fairness, the weather predictions were rain until friday night. A lot of people, myself included, thought they had to go to work since you cant stay home because of rain. That morning the weather channel said rain until 9. Well I left work at 2 because thats when the snow started by where I live...it wasnt even snowing yet by my job. I think everyone did the best they could, but once snow started employers should not have waited because it got bad fast.

Is the county saying its 515 or the tow company. After sandy there were a ton if tow companies price gouging.
I would look into it a bit more.

If I were a NYC teacher living on LI I would have called in sick that day. No way would I risk my life for any job! Sometimes you just gotta live with the choices you make...not blame the gov't/schools/bosses etc
