Very strange
My dh and I can't figure out what is going on with our neighbors. They helped us rip out bushes a few months ago and to thank them, my dh brought over a bottle of gray goose vodka. My dh said thanks so much for helping us and she said that wasn't necessary. After that...they stopped talking to us. They drive past our house and don't even wave anymore.
I don't know what the hell is the matter with them!!

Re: Very strange
That is very odd! Has anything else happened on the block? Or maybe they are going through their own rough time right now and it has nothing to do with you and DH?

Us too!!! We both put our houses on the market around the same time and the next thing you know they stopped waving, etc... very awkward!

Re: Very strange
People are strange... regardless of the fact if they were offended by the alcohol, it was the gesture that counts.

Re: Very strange
Our neighbors are weird like that too. One day the guy next door (who is about my parents age) will talk to DH and BS for a while, and then weeks go by and him and his wife won't even wave to us. Its very odd.

Do they wave back if you wave or pretend they don't see you.

Re: Very strange
the only thing i can think of is: does someone have a drinking problem?
but, then again, if you don't know about it, how can your dh bringing the vodka over be offensive. like stated above, it's a gesture.
people ARE weird!

Re: Very strange
I dunno. I don't drink (I just don't like it). But I would not be offended or upset if someone brought me alcohol as a gesture of thanks or friendship. Something else must be going on.

Re: Very strange
I would put them on the spot and ask them over for dinner and see what they say. If they make up some stupid excuse you know they are strange and not to bother with them anymore

Re: Very strange
Maybe they are just oblivious? I know I can be in my own little world when I have a lot on my mind and not notice until the car passes that one of the neighbors is driving by.

I wave and they don't "see" me at all...they look straight ahead.

Re: Very strange
They were probably offended by the alcohol like someone else said. It was nice, but unless you know for sure someone drinks, I wouldn't give them alcohol. They could be recovering alcoholic's, etc. Nice gesture though

Maybe they think (and I'm going out on a limb here) that you're going to keep asking them for help. We have this neighbor that is a PITA, and keeps asking my dh to take him here, there, and use my dh's truck to go back/forth to HomeDepot. Dh is to the point now that he avoids this neighbor at all costs because if he DOES talk to him, it usually leads to a favor.
Maybe your neighbors are being irrational thinking this? I mean, you don't ask them for tons of help, do you?
HTH...
Ps - I don't think it has anything to do with the gift you gave them.
