Update:What does your one year old say?

Update:

I took DD to her 1 yr appt today. The Ped said at 12 months if she is saying Mom Dad & 1 other work she is progressing fine. So don't worry about your 12 month old saying 5 words, even if they don't say mom dad yet, she said it's too early to worry.

Since this post she also says Bye, Hi, Ohhhh.



Another topic on here got me thinking about talking. My DD babbles on and on, she will have a full conversation with me in baby babble.

The only words I can hear clearly is Yes, This, Mom, dada, and sometimes it sounds like she says Don't touch.

What does your DC say, and how many words should they be saying?

What does your one year old say?

Mama, Dada, No, Nite Nite

It sounds like she is saying what's that and this but I am not sure.

ETA: She does know some words in sign language: More, Finished, Milk

She also shakes her head yes and no when appropriate.

Ugh - I am having such a hard time with this myself !

My first was ridiculously advanced in his verbal skills and vocabulary - He always spoke very clearly. I never had to translate .......and by 15 months he had at least 30 words.........

I am trying SO SO SO hard not to compare my second to him because I know it's not fair, and every kid is totally different.

Colin does Mama, Dada, uh oh, bye bye (but he says it w/ a 'd' instead of a 'b') and night night - (but w/o the 't')
I THNK he says Papa (my Dad) but none of it is consistend or obvious (like, you know he's talking to me, saying "Mama" all the time - KWIM?) He also sings E I E I O - If you do "Old McDonald" ......

My Ped yelled at me and told me not to compare him to Sean (which again, i KNOW) and as long as he's verbal and bablbling and understanding he will be fine -

So, I'm trying to give the poor kid some space!

Hi, bye, mommy, daddy, bottle, what happened, uh oh, sibling names, no, night night, yum, again, this, dog, banana, I think that's it.
Leaps and bounds more then my last who was a late talker. It's so hard not to compare.

Eta - how could I forget "mine!!!" that's a favorite around here.

Dada, Doggy, Yes, & This (but yes and this are kind of 'everything' words!).

So far no Mama. I joke that she thinks my name is "(insert whiny noise here)"

My 13 month old only says mama, dada, hi and da-o-a (our dog Dakota). She shakes her head no but doesn't say it.

DD just turned 12 months. She doesn't say anything really consistently, but we have a few words - sparky (my Dad's dog), bye, book, milk, mama, dada, hi

He also mimics alot of voice changes, tons of words even if he can't get the letter sounds correct.

I clearly remember that DS1 had his language explosion between 16-18m because I had just become a SAHM at 16m. And I am seeing a similar trend in DS2. At his 12m appt I mentioned to the ped how he had very little verbal words and wasnt really babbling, but she assured me that alot of babies, especially those who are so focused on motor skills early on (DS walked at 11m and was climbing furniture well before that) tend to focus on verbal later. And in the last 2.5m he has gone from 2 words to 10-20 words.

DS is 15 months and is always talking, most of these he said well before his first birthday:

He also randomly copies other words say but that list(I know I am missing some obvious ones too) are the words/sentences he uses daily. He was walking by 9 months.

DD is 14 months and says Mama, Dada, Ba (Ball) Dog, and Cheepy for Chicken ( My parents have chickens). She just started using Dog, Cheepy, and Ba in context. She used Dada more frequently in context than Mama.

My dd had about 15-20 words at 1yr but she didn't walk until 15m. Our ped said sometimes a child focuses on one or the other. Now at 19m she basically says any word you ask her and is doing 2-3 word sentences

He says

da-da
more (sounds like mo though, and he uses it for milk too)

That's it! He will make other sounds like na-na, ma-ma and ba-ba, but not usually in reference to anything.

His ped said that it's normal for boys to start talking a bit later, closer to 18 months. DS was walking at 11 months, so I tend to think it's true that they focus on either motor or verbal and then the other area comes later.

DD began saying a lot at 12 mos. at 15 mos She says:
Mommy, daddy, she also calls DH by his first name, jack (our dog), mine, thank you, love you, no bite, brush hair, brush teeth, dora, elmo, oh shit, nite nite, fish, doggy, makes several animal sounds, baby, abc, 1234, I go, up/down, on/off, says the kids names in daycare, and sitters name etc. pasta, ice pop, kiwi, juice, eyes nose, outside, book, boogie, sit down

My daughter turned one yesterday... is she supposed to be saying all these words already????? lol

I know she says give me and dada.. but everything else is in her own language.
