how many words does your 1 year old say?
DD had her one year check up yesterday and the doctor assumed she had 4-5 words. DD has two very clear words - mama and dada. She occasionally will say a weird version of our dogs name but that is it. She will imitate multiple sounds (ba, ga ect...) and waves and point all the time. I was not concerned but now I am wondering if she should be saying more. TIA

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
I feel the same way. DD doesn't say much clearly at 12 months. She will say da da and ma ma but I don't even know if she is saying them to us. She tries to say cat- but it sounds more like CA She tries to say ball too- but it's more like ba Shoes is oos. You get the point
I don't know- I feel like 12 months is young though.
I googled how many words should a child have at 12 months and nothing comes up - it all starts at like 15 months the charts
I'm not too concerned- she knows what things are. If I say- go get your ball she will get it. Go get your shoes she will get them. Etc
I think the words will come

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
My boys are 13mo.
Georgeis says mama, dada and taco. (The taco is his favorite play food item in his shopping cart. )
Hunter says mama finally and just started saying dada.
I told our ped that I was concerned at their 12mo check up, but he told me to relax. He said he would be concerned if Hunter wasn't babbling by 15mo, but now he is.
They understand what we are saying and go and get things when we ask them to.

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
Was the Dr. concerned?
I have three nieces and two of the three began speaking really early and the other was a late bloomer all around, walking, talking etc. Now they're all chatty...can't shut them up.
My DS is 14months old and says the following words: English: mama dada dog Doh (for Dora) ba pa (back pack) eat me uh me (we call his snacks ummies) baba (bottle) hi bye
caca (this is when he picked up something dirty or when he pooped)
Spanish: oye callle (he says this when he wants to go outside) alli te ti te ta (teta/bottle) gua (for agua/Water) abre (open)

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
My DS doesn't really have any words... he can say mama and dada and I think he tries to come up with some version of Elizabeth because he starts yelling "ehba!" every time his sister walks in the room but I don't know if it counts as a word if I just happen to know what he's trying to say rather than actually hearing what he's saying, kwim?

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
It never even occured to me to be concerned . DD is 13 months and we just spent 2 weeks in Ireland where she started saying a few "words". Her vocab consists of:
dada dog bird keys mama (sorta, but more like in a whiney way when she's sad..."maaamaaaa")
She babbles all day and she really does try to repeat us so I don't think I'm going to worry, and I don't think you should either.

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
Dd is 13 months and doesn't have any words yet. She babbled mama dada but doesn't apply them to us. I feel like trying night night, she say ni NI, but my dh doesn't think so. That's it. She's being pointing to things and trying to communicate. She doesn't listen to me yet either. I can go get the ball and sometimes she will.

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
At 12 months DS only really had mama and dada. He said bye bye (ba bye) few times, but even now doesn't say it anymore.
DS is 16 months and doesn't have that many words yet either. He really babbles now though - more like actually having a conversation just in his own language - so I'm not really concerned yet.

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
oh you can do a search by name and look for speech.. cause seriously.. NONE
She said dada but no mama by then.
She knew like 2 words maybe.
She knew words but didnt SAY words. Continued on until over 2. 3 evaluations later and all of a sudden *pop* the words started to flow at 30m old.

Its still early. DS is 14 months and talks like he's saying something but I can't make any of it out. He says mama, dada, lilah (my sis's dog), ba for ball, nana (banana).

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
I was worried too but DS babbles a ton (sounds Like he is having a full convo with us in a different language) and dr said not to worry.
DS says Dada (but I still dont think he assosiates it) He said baba months and months ago a lot, but not since
Then we think he says Go go go - he does this when playing with his cars Ca - for cat
He is 13 months and now when he babbles some times he sounds like he said certain words but not consistant.

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
Thanks Ladies! I was not concerned at all either but more curious especially when the doctor (who didn't seem overly concerned) said we will just revisit that at her next appointment. DD babbles a ton. It is like she is having an entire conversation with her stuffed animals, herself or even sometimes with DH or I. I am just going to continue what I am doing - talking with her as much as possible and labeling everything and anything in sight. She completely understands when we ask her to do something - example - go get daddy, give us mickey mouse (her favorite toy), where are the planes (she looks up in the sky or goes to the window) ect.... I am not concerned! Thank you again

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
When dc#1 was 1 year, he had 25+ words. By 15 months lost count, well over 200 words plus spoke in short sentences.
But all kids are different. My twins are 11 months and have only a few each. Nothing like ds#1.
DS#2 ma ma Da da Ba ba Uh-oh So (trying to say "so big") pa (puffs) na da ( his version on landon)
DD Ma ma Da da Ba ba Boo (for peek a boo)

I agree- at her 9 month visit they were asking me already- and I was like um really? Because everythign I read online about language says not to worry before 15 months. It's insane.

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
At 12 mo my DS probably only had about 5 words but, by 14 mos he probably had 50 or more and from then on was VERY advanced verbally so I wouldn't worry. At 12 mo my DD already had tons of words, by 14 mos we lost count as they were over 100 and new words all day long.
Every child is SO different. When my DS was that age he had friends that still said nothing at 15 months and now, at 3.5 they are fine!
At 18 mos the ped asked if he had 10-20 words and I was like b/c he was saying hundreds. But, that was all they expected. So, clearly, the norm is whatever is the norm for your child at this age as long as they are meeting the minimum expectations. In my experience, 4-5 words for a 12 mo old is actually alot!

Re: how many words does your 1 year old say?
DD is 12 months and has quite a few of “words”. But by “words” I mean that DH, older DD & I know what she’s saying…but most other people wouldn’t know if it was out of context, you know?
She says: bird, dog (pup pup she says), car (though it sounds like she’s got a heavy Boston accent because she say caaaaa), mama, dada, tries to say her big sister’s name (it’s a hard one, but she consistently says the same thing every time she calls for her), ball, bye bye, boo, etc.
But I agree, don’t worry! It’s still too early to worry!
